Hey, everyone! So… Have you decided whether or not you’re diving into Moda Blockheads 6 with me yet, or are you just here to watch the shenanigans unfold? Cool either way—and no rush to get started! Despite the quilt-along “officially” kicking off two weeks ago, the pattern for Block #1 just released this last Wednesday, so you’re just about on schedule even if you’re still deciding on what fabric to use.
Whether you’re ready to jump in to MBH6 full speed ahead, or you’re just planning to hang back and soak it all in for a while, Regatta by Vanessa Christenson is guaranteed to get your creative energies flowing. This beautiful and beginner-friendly block features classic Half-Square Triangles and Rail Fence units. Its clean shapes create a fresh modern layout that sets the perfect tone for future blocks in the series. Inspired by the rhythm of waves and the movement of sails, Regatta captures a sense of flow and balance. Its crisp angles and clean lines create a dynamic feel, making it a unique addition to the Moda Blockheads collection!

Even though it won’t be delivered until this December, I’ve decided to do my quilt in reds, whites, and blues in honor of one of my latest fabric lines—American Gatherings III! Moda on the other hand is doing their version using a mixed basics colorway. How will you make your Blockheads quilt this year?

For those of you who are also choosing to go with a red, white, and blue theme like I am, I will be using two different gray Bella Solids for my background fabrics. They include three yards of Bella Solids Steel 9900 184 (instead of the white in Moda’s original design), and four yards of Bella Solids Graphite 9900 202 (instead of the Navy in Moda’s design), which you can find on our website by clicking the buttons below. In addition, for those of you who are going with this colorway but just so happen to be short on lights, I’ve got you covered with curated Fat Quarter bundles that include 18 light fat quarters for only $72.00. As for the darks, I don’t have specific bundles made up at the moment, so you’ll need to pull those from your own stash and mix and match from what you’ve already got on hand.
If you have any questions on how to go about making this week’s block, be sure to check out Moda’s video tutorial on YouTube! Whether you’re a seasoned Blockhead or joining us for the first time, you’ll appreciate the clear instructions, handy tips, and warm encouragement they provide—all in one place! You can find the video along with all sorts of helpful information including the latest block patterns on the Moda Inspiration + Resources Blog by clicking HERE!
Also! Remember to join the Moda Blockheads Facebook Group, where thousands of members share photos of their progress, hot tips, and encouragement throughout the quilt-along. You can also follow along and share your progress on your favorite social media platform using the hashtag #ModaBlockheads6! That being said, I especially encourage everyone to post photos of your progress in my STITCH with Lisa Bongean Facebook group as well, which you can join by clicking HERE if you’re not already a member.
Still on the fence? If you didn’t get a chance to catch me LIVE this week I highly recommend going back and watching the replay where I talk more in depth about the details and how it all works (start video at 13:40 for MBH6). After that, you still have until this Wednesday to decide before the next block is released. Honestly though, you could jump into this QAL half-way through and it wouldn’t really matter. It’s not a race! Come check it all out by clicking the STITCH button below!
Well, friends—that’s all I have for you this week! Is it just me or did it really seem to fly by? I guess that’s what happens when you skip Monday. Maybe we should start doing that all the time… I bet you Jess would totally be on board with that—LOL! Have a great weekend, and I will see you soon! ~Lisa
