Mother’s Day weekend is upon us and we’re kicking it off in style with the latest little bundle of joy from the quilt stork. On top of it being Mother’s Day this Sunday, we just so happen to be conveniently due for the next release from the Primitive Gatherings Weekend Edition Quilt Series. Good news — the result of Alysha’s creative “labor” has arrived right on time… everyone say bonjour to Weekend Series Quilt #22, Bleu Belle!

Bleu Belle is built using four 5″ charm packs from the gorgeous Sacré Bleu fabric line by French General, with a Bella solid rounding out the background and binding. If you don’t already have a love affair with this fabric, I’m willing to bet that you’re about to. Sacré Bleu has serious French roots, taking its name from the sacred blue that has represented France since the 15th century, claimed by both religion and politics as the color of courage. French General drew inspiration from their summers in France, dyeing antique white linen scraps into stunning shades of Woad blue. The result is a dreamy collection of French Blue, Woad Blue, and Indigo, with a whisper of Ciel Bleu woven in for good measure. Absolument magnifique!

This petite merveille of a quilt is exactly what it looks like — simple, beautiful, and absolutely achievable in just a weekend’s amount of time. To sum it up, pretty much all you need to do is cut your charm squares down to size, whip up some half-square triangles, sew four charms together for the center block, and the “hard” work is pretty much done.

Not a fan of the color blue in your quilts? No worries! One of the many beautiful things about Bleu Belle is that it works any way you want to take it — get scrappy with whatever you have in your stash, finally use those charm packs you’ve been hoarding away for just the right project, or do it exactly like ours with four 5″ charm packs of Sacré Bleu. No matter which way you go, Bleu Belle also requires 4½ yards of background fabric and 7 yards of backing to complete the quilt.
