Wind, Hail, and Flying Geese at Primitive Gatherings!

Hey, everyone!

Holy cats — have we had a day! Last week it was toxic air and muggy heat trying to snuff us out, and now today we’re dealing with baseball-sized hail, torrential rain, and a flippin’ tornado that decided to touch down just a few miles down the highway from PG! Needless to say, that storm was crazy and I am so, so grateful that we didn’t see any damage here in Larsen. I am also extremely saddened and concerned for our neighbors in the Neenah, Menasha, and Oshkosh areas because many were not as lucky. If you were affected by this storm, please know we are thinking of and praying for you!!!

Thankfully, I have something positive to share today, and after such a wild and upsetting morning, it feels like the perfect excuse to spend a few minutes talking about something a bit on the lighter side. Any idea what it could be??? You guessed it — quilts!

Have you been following along with my quilting buddy and fellow designer Vegas Val’s All About Quilts Fat Quarter Series? If not, what the heck… you should be! Each month, she whips up a new fat quarter-friendly quilt pattern using just 12 coordinating fat quarters along with some additional border fabric. Her latest design, Zig or Zag, is a fun mix of flying geese and rectangles arranged in vertical rows that create a great sense of movement throughout the quilt. Isn’t she purdy?

Like all Val’s quilts in the All About Quilts Fat Quarter Series, Zig or Zag is available as an individual pattern or sold as a kit featuring the True Love fabric line by Lella Boutique. This quilt finishes at 56″ x 71″ and requires the usual 12 fat quarters, fabric for a border or two, and an additional four yards of backing fabric. Just a reminder — if you’re grabbing the kit, be sure to add your backing fabric at the same time because, as always, we’re offering 20% off your backing when it’s purchased with the kit!

To give you an idea of what the True Love fabric line by Lella Boutique is like, imagine a beautiful collection that combines rich navy, soft greens, and creamy neutrals into a palette that feels both classic and calming. With its vintage-inspired prints featuring florals, birds, and other timeless motifs, this fabric line gives Zig or Zag a gorgeous old-fashioned feel. The only negative here is there’s a serious risk of falling in love with this yummy fabric so much that you start wondering if cutting it up is actually the right thing to do. Trust me… it is.

Whether you’re stitching up Zig or Zag with True Love or pulling fabrics from your own stash, this stunner of a quilt is another great addition to Val’s growing collection of fat quarter-friendly designs. With its vertical rows of flying geese and basic rectangles, Zig or Zag is a great reminder that sometimes simple shapes can come together and create some serious eye candy!

Alright my loves, that is all I have for you today because even though my staff and I are all safe and sound, it has been a stressful and emotional day nonetheless, and I am ready for it to be over — I can’t wait to get home and hug my people… and my house for that matter! Before I hang it up for the night, I do want to say thank you to those of you who reached out through calls, messages, texts, and emails today checking on me and my crew. Your kind thoughts, prayers, and good vibes mean more than you know, especially on a day when so many of our neighbors are picking up the pieces and dealing with the aftermath of this storm. Take care of yourselves, squeeze your loved ones a little tighter tonight, and remember to appreciate the little things we take for granted every day. See you soon, everyone! ~ Lisa
