Hey, everyone!

Big plans this weekend? If a little sewing time made its way onto your to-do list over the next couple of days, I’ve got just the project for you. September Star is the latest addition to my Weekend Edition Quilt Series. This quilt was chosen for the roster because it comes complete with that sweet spot weekend quilters are always on the hunt for — simple, fast, and a total stunner when it’s finished with no long-term commitment required to make it happen.

The shop sample of September Star (pictured below) was made with a fabric collection that we’ve now used for at least one retreat project, plus another regular project or two. I suppose that’s why it’s no surprise that at this point, we’ve officially sewn our way through the last of it. While that’s actually a pretty good problem to have, it also means we have to switch things up a bit to kit this project. So instead, going forward, we’re giving September Star a fall glow-up using my brand-new Flannel Gatherings Basics line — a fabulous collection of buttery soft flannels featuring classic plaids, checks, houndstooth, herringbone, and rich primitive colors. Yum!

There’s a lot to love about the design of September Star, starting with the huge eight-point star right in the middle. Though it uses simple geometry, this bold star quilt still gives plenty of aesthetic impact — in other words, it may not be complicated, but it sure does look neat! In addition to the large center star, narrow charcoal strips run through the center of the design, creating a framework that helps the orange star points to really stand out. As a finishing touch, the pieced triangles along the top and bottom edges create a repeating sawtooth/zigzag effect that adds a bit of movement to the quilt for some extra eye candy.

I can honestly say that today was a beautiful day! The sun is shining, there’s a nice breeze, and it’s pleasantly warm out but not too hot… what more can you ask for? We might get a storm or two this weekend so with that in mind, I’m not going to spend any more of this perfect day indoors under fluorescent lights — time for me to go! I hope you all have a GREAT weekend, and if you’re local enough, that you have a chance to get over to the Great WI Quilt Show, which is happening now at the Alliant Energy Center, located at 1919 Alliant Energy Center Way in Madison.

FYI, if you do plan to come out to the show, our booth is located all the way back in the vendor mall, right next to the classroom, so you really can’t miss us. Between the shop side of the booth and the BERNINA area, we have one of the largest booths at the show (if not the largest) which I would say makes us super easy to spot! The shop side will be filled with lots of quilting goodies to browse, while the BERNINA crew will have longarms set up and ready to let you try before you buy.
