Hey, everyone!

Welcome to the beginning of another gorgeous fall weekend! The leaves are starting to change, and the temperatures are definitely falling, but this weekend, Mother Nature is graciously giving us what will most likely be our last taste of sunny, warm weather until spring. The forecast is calling for right around 80 degrees on both days, so you can bet I plan to take full advantage of it!

Wisconsin is beautiful year-round, but fall? Oh, fall has a way of showing off Mother Nature’s artistic talent! The whole spectrum of the rainbow is on display outside, from gorgeous blue skies and purple-tinted clouds to golden fields, vibrant oranges, fiery reds, and every shade of green you can imagine. Add in the smell of fallen leaves, trips to the apple orchard, pumpkin patches, corn mazes, harvest festivals, and scenic drives just to admire the colors, and it’s easy to see why this is such a special time of year for those of us who are “lucky” enough to live in a place with four seasons.

These days, one of my favorite ways to enjoy fall to the fullest is by seeing it through my grandsons’ eyes! Recently, I took my three grand boys to Porter’s Pumpkin Patch in Navarino, WI, for an afternoon of fall harvest treats and autumnal adventures! With pumpkin-themed games, farmyard fun, and plenty of room for kids to run, climb, and explore, it didn’t take long for the boys to find plenty of ways to burn off — some — of their boundless energy. Fall has been keeping me busy in all the best ways, both at home and at Primitive Gatherings! Between my recent travels, getting ready for Primitive Christmas, and preparing for the actual holidays just around the corner, I’m certainly not short on things keeping me busy! Yet somehow, in the middle of all the chaos, I couldn’t resist working on something new for the shop that I’m excited to finally share with you…

If there’s one thing I’ve learned after all these years of stitching, it’s that sometimes the little things make the biggest difference in your work! When it comes to quality stitching supplies, I’ll be the first to say that certain tools of the trade are worth getting downright “snippy” about — and in my opinion, a good pair of scissors is definitely one of them! After all, when you’re working with wool, cotton, and all the tiny details that fiber artists encounter, having the right cutting tools can mean the difference between a clean cut and a screw up.

After seeing so many different scissors at the trade shows and sewing events that I’ve attended lately, I started thinking about what I’d want in a pair of my own! I wanted something that felt just right, but I couldn’t seem to find a pair that ticked all the boxes I was looking for. That got me thinking and you know what that means… it didn’t take me long to come up with these little babies!

Introducing my new Primitive Gatherings 5-Inch Scissors! I designed these 5-inch scissors with all my favorite stitching projects in mind, from wool appliqué and cotton piecing to quilting and embroidery. They’re just the right size for getting into those smaller areas where you need a bit more control with your cutting.

Have you ever caught someone using your good fabric scissors to cut paper? I’m guessing they only made that mistake once.
