Day 11….Christmas is coming fast….hope you have made your list….every year Nick makes me go through every William-Sonoma, Sundance, Athleta ect. catalog and pick everything I like……so he can surprise me…funny…right? But at least I get what I like and not a real surprise!!! I’m not good at faking that I like something…I know that sounds bad but when you have been married for 15 years he should know what I would like…and I guess he does…he asks me….lol…can you tell I am feeling a little better?
Now on to the real needful things…for this next one you are going to say…I have all the rulers I need I have my 6×24 or a 12×12….but… as I was cutting my project for my latest quilt with the new Creative Grid rulers that I have outfitted my new studio with, it was amazing … I can’t tell you what a huge difference these new updated Creative Grid rulers made…the best part? They have the 1/2″ marking in bold black…now this is really what we are cutting the most is 2 1/2″ or 4 1/2″ and so on…because of our half inch seam allowances…this bold black make this so much more recognizable and easy to find the right 1/2″. Did I mention I recently got my first pair of no line bifocals????…but anyway…. I was elated and now want to replace every ruler I own, (except my little 4×8 omni) with this new updated version…did you know you can get a square ruler in every size square from 2 1/2- 12 1/2? I actually use my 20 1/2″ ruler a lot too…but you may want to start slowly when your budget allows to upgrade your rulers….As I was inspecting my old rulers I noticed the lines are starting to fade, the edges are nicked up a bit…so I can see getting a few new rulers….You want to check these out!!!
I think you can get these rulers at any quilt shop…but…If you want to add them to your list from Primitive Gatherings we have them on sale for you…I have listed and added the most common rulers I use in my quilting as I do not think you need a square in every size! These are my favorites…6 1/2 and 12 1/2″ squares and 6 1/2″x 12 1/2″ and 8 1/2″x 24 1/2″ rectangles. Click here to shop for Rulers
Please keep in mind that we have no idea how many items people are going to buy for these 12 posts, so please be patient and we will ship your rulers and any other needful things you order as soon as possible…we appreciate your loyalty and want to get you your things as fast as possible because you are the best!
Today I am going to finish decorating the tree…it has been up with lights for a week now…so on with those ornies!!! Did you read this all the way to the end? If so comment and I will pick a winner for each of these 12 posts….The winner for yesterdays post is…
Sue kraftDecember 13, 2013 at 7:58 pm
Lisa, get better soon!! The Seam-Fix looks great. The minis would be excellent as favors for the Christmas meeting of my quilting group, but we meet next Tuesday and I don’t think even Santa could get them here fast enough. BTW, I’ve been using tweezers to remove those threads and sometimes it can be a pain. I enjoy your Needful Things postings very much.
Sue send me your address details to primitivegatheringsquiltshop@yahoo.com and we will be sending you a Floral Gatherings Layer cake and a seam-fix! Thanks for following and not being to shy to comment!!!
Merry Quilting!

A sale on Creative grids rulers means I will be getting at least one. Merry Christmas to me! And you!
These rulers sound wonderful. I have a couple of rulers that the lines are really faded. It does make it hard for these eyes to see sometimes. Glad you are feeling better.
I so agree with you. Never enough rulers and Creative Grid are the BEST!
Glad to hear you are feeling better! It’s no fun to be down during the holidays. The rulers look very interesting and can’t wait to see one in person. I did buy, your favorite, the 4×8 and love it. The 4″ comes in handy all the time. Thanks for always giving us such good tips.
I am so excited to find out your needful things! I just got both yesterday’s and today’s emails so am glad there is the option to order all 12 days at a time!
Hope today finds you feeling better!
Lines you can see! Awesome. Thanks for the heads up Lisa.
I love Creative Grid rulers. They are the only ruler I can use with my poor eyesight. And you are so right, all the “squares” come in so handy. Sounds like you’re feeling better. I have ornies to do too, at the same stage as you. Let’s get her done this weekend!
Lisa, your suggestions are always the best. Last year I followed your advice and bought the Hera tool which I had never even heard of and I use it and really like it. Thanks so much for taking time at this busy season to give us such great tips.
These rulers would be a fabulous heloers.this weekend I`m going to deceor my house with some of the ornament I made this year an d my old wallhanging.Have a fun weekend!
I have heard such great things about these rulers that I recently decided to start replacing my most used and worn out rulers with Creative Grids. It is true how lines begin to wear off and edges get nicked up. What a great “Needful Item” to add.
Thanks.
You are so right! We cut 1/2″ marks all of the time so we SHOULD have rulers that make it easier! (I can always justify spending money on my quilting. ..thank you for making it easier ;o)! )
I have the 20 1/2″ ruler and love it. I need to look at replacing some of my smaller rulers. Thanks for the sale to make it more affordable to do so. Merry Christmas to you & Nick.
You have the right idea for getting what you want with Nick. I fold down pages circle items and he still doesn’t get it. Or he finds something similar that is cheaper but…well is cheaper and not what I wanted. Might be why I just go ahead and buy things myself. Hope you are enjoying your time at home.
I love my Creative Grid rulers…..but now I see I might have to add some new ones to the mix. So glad you are feeling better 🙂
Creative Grid is the only kind of ruler I use. I don’t have any of the new ones with the darker 1/2″ line and would just love to have one or two! It seems to be snowing outside and on this screen as I type. How cool is that!
So funny – my quilting “to-do” list for next year was to replace my old worn rulers!
Hooray – a good place to start and get them on sale!!!!
Merry – Merry 🙂
Jayne
Boy, could I use a new ruler, especially the 6 1/2 ” square. I threw one away because the lines were disappearing. Thanks for the chance to win. Merry Christmas.
Glad you are getting better, still have time before Christmas! Merry Christmas to you!
Glad you’re feeling a little better Lisa. Get that tree decorated so you’ll have time to get back to your quilting. My rulers are getting old, too, so I’m going to look into these new ones.
I think I need to start updating my ruler collection!
I do the same thing with my husband and Christmas gifts. I can’t fake liking something I don’t. So I generally shop for my self or give detailed description of exactly what I want. This year I am getting new feet for my Sweet 16 that I bought for my 55th birthday this year.
I love Creative Grids rulers! I am in need of the 12 1/2 one though…. Glad you are feeling better and have fun decorating your tree today!
I have used Creative grids for years and love them. I will look for the new, I have one in the 6 1/2 sq. but haven’t seen the others yet. Love your blog and designs. Please enter me in the drawing. Thanks, Connie L. in Texas\
Lisa glad you are feeling better. I too have a hard time hiding something I don’t care for so I know exactly where you are coming from. Good thing we are married to wonderful men! The creative grid rulers are the best. Wish I had all of them.
I was with my quilting friends yesterday morning and the talk was all about when is Lisa going to post her 12 day? I came home and there it was, so fun. I have noticed my rulers getting nicked at the corners . Time for an upgrade!
I love creative grid rulers, they are easy to read and love the way they don’t slide on the fabric. Can a girl have to many rules? I don’t think so! Going to your site now!
I love these rulers, too! I need a few more. Thank you for the chance to win and the sale, in case I don’t!
Lisa, I am so gld to hear about these rulers. I am still using my old Salem rulers because they have that bold black line for every quarter inch for the first inch…. I will be checking out these new ones for sure as the lines on mine are pretty faded too!
WOW! The new rulers sound great! Most of my rulers also have little nicks or even broken edges (just like the OLD owner) and I have been thinking for some time that I needed to replace a few. Those may be just the checker, especially as the eyes are going also and I could probably see the lines so much easier. Thanks so much for the tip. P.S. I am so glad that you are feeling better. No one should be ill at Christmas!
Thanks for the great ruler info LIsa — I hope you’re feeling better today. I haven’t tried the Creative Grids rulers yet — I guess it is about time though — I was inspecting my 9×12 ruler the other day and there are all sorts of gouges in it… ah the love of our tools! Take care now — Karen on Keuka
I was so excited to see you we’re doing the needful things post again this year. I really enjoyed and look forward to every post last year . Been using these rulers for awhile now and love them.
Lisa, Thank you for all of the info about “needful things”. I love Creative Grids rulers, although I only have a few, but plan to upgrade all of my most used rulers. Thanks for the great sale! Have fun decorating the tree.
I have found that the old rulers not only have nicks but seem to get “bowed” a bit along the center from so much use. The darker half inch lines will be a great help as I too have the bifocals. The nice bright lights we put in our sewing rooms can make seeing through plastic a challenge. Thank you for the 12 Days of Christmas, I so enjoyed it last year I was hoping for a replay.
Hi Lisa~ hope you, Nick & family have a great Christmas! Glad youre feeling better, Im in the same boat~ definitely going to finish decorating today now that I feel better! Love your 12 days of ideas! I’ve been away from the quilting world for awhile, so am looking at sorts of new ( to me, anyway)! Tools & think I jusy MAY have to add some fabric to my stash! most of mine would prob be “vintage” by now! LOL! Enjoy the Holidays! Debbie 🙂
I was hoping that you would do your 12 days of Christmas. There are so many quilting items out there but not always as “helpful” as you hope. Glad you are feeling a bit better! I would love a new ruler. I have had mine for many years. Merry Christmas!
Lisa, Thank you for all the reasons you like the Creative Grid ruler. I have been contemplating replacing my 25 year old rulers with the corners missing but didn’t know which ones would be the best to use. There are so many to choose from now. Merry Christmas to you and your family!
I love Creative Grid rulers and I’m sure these will be an excellent addition to my collection. Glad you’re on the mend and happy decorating!!

I can definitely relate…..I don’t have time to be sick but here I am…..home sick with the crud! I also have discovered these rulers and they are great! I’m on a mission to replace my old ones too!
The Creative Grids rulers have certainly become one of my favorite things! So much so that when on quilt retreat, I spent my “mad money” on a Creative Grid ruler instead of all the lovely fabric I encountered. As an aging lefty, I also appreciate how easily I can flip the ruler and see the numbers to assure accurate cutting. I feel about my small Creative Grid ruler collection as others have felt about their Beany Baby collections in years gone by! Enjoy the Holidays!
Lisa…have fun decorating the tree. Dark lines on the half inch…ingenious since that is mostly what I cut.
I need to streamline my ruler collection, thanks for your Needful things, I might get r done! That is Texas slang. Glad you are feeling better, just don’t overdo!
I really like these rulers but they are pricey. Hope you get the tree finished this weekend. It is all coming very soon. Thanks for the chance to win.
Mary
Hi Lisa, My rulers are in the same shape as yours..lol. I will be looking into the Creative Grid rulers. I glad you’re feel better and I hope you get your tree done. You know you are feeling bad when you can’t find the energy to put the ornies on…that’s the fun part!
Happy Holidays, Leanne
Thanks for the tips! Sounds like you are feeling better. Enjoy your weekend!
Lisa, I’m glad to hear you’re feeling better. It’s no fun being sick especially at such a busy time of the year.
I’m a newcomer to your website and I am hooked. I love all of the projects you publish and the more I poke around your website, the longer my wish list becomes. Just the other day I was thinking about picking up a bigger square ruler and Creative Grids are my favorite. I have the 20 1/2 x 20 1/2 and LOVE it. I don’t use it as often as my other sizes but when you need it, you NEED it. So once again, my wish list has grown. Now to decide which one(s) I’m going to add to my collection.
Thanks for all you do for your customers. You’re a very generous and giving person. Have a great day!
I don’t think you can have too many rulers, as long as they serve a purpose. I went out and bought the 4 X 8 omnigrid you told us about on your blog last year. I use it a lot. Right now I’m working on the Cabin Friends wall hanging I bought from your shop last year, and I’m using that ruler. I like the small size of it.
Lisa…..So glad to hear your ornies will soon be home on the tree. It’s been a rough year for you guys; and through it all, you never skip a beat…..even when you are sick!! I always read, but never comment, on your blog, but a ruler with 1/2″ dark markings!!!! It’s a wonder it has taken so long to market. Continue your healing path.
You can’t have too many rulers! Happy decorating, Lisa!
I always love your needful comment!! I have slowly buying creative grid but always like a sale Thank you so much. Merry Christmas !
Love Creative Grid rulers–and they have videos on their website for some of the specialty rulers.
I quickly fell in love with these Creative Grid rulers after buyng my first one… a 2 and 1/2 inch wide one to make it easier to cut my own ‘jelly roll’ strips. It’s wonderful and I hope to slowly replace some of my real oldies too. Hope you’re feeling better. Stay warm and drink some lemon tea! Oh.. I love how the snow is falling here on the screen… it matches the outside!
Glad you are feeling better! Have fun with the tree and thanks for bringing back 12 Needful things. So many good ideas to pick from.
Stacy
I read to the end and have to say that I love my Creative Grid rulers. The markings are great and they don’t seem to slide like some others. FYI! I got my Summer pieced BOW 2013 back from the quilter and put the binding on. I love it !!! Thanks for the work you put into everything you do. Glad you feel better.
I think that your gift to us quilters of the needful things is amazing. Last year I couldn’t wait each day to find out what the next item would be and to learn from you. I purchased several of the needful things last year and LOVE all of them. Thank you so much!
I’m a notion junkie and very particular about my rulers. I use them all, from 1 x 12 to 20.5 square! These new ones look great, so I may have to add to my collection. Love to read your comments and suggestions. Thanks, and happy decorating!
Marian M.
I too, have started replacing my rulers with Creative a Grid…love the markings on them for my aging eyes! I hope you get all you want for Christmas!
Hi Lisa, Love the 12 days of Christmas gift for us quilters. This week I went to the eye doctor and was advised and prescribed my first pair of no line bifocals. Had to think positive and excited to receive them so I can clearly see again on all the beautiful fabric I have and get another look at all my quilts displayed through my home. The Creative Grid rulers you mentioned would be a fine addition to what I currently have. Merry Christmas !
One can never have too many rulers. I like the idea of the 1/2″ line marked bolder! I really enjoy this 12 needful things posting….Thanks for sharing, and the opportunity for winning! Happy Holidays – get feeling better so you can enjoy the season 🙂
I’m completely a tool nut. Really like just the right tool. And have a lot of birthdays under my belt, things that are easy to see make quilting easier. I loved your posts last year also! I live in Idaho , I don’t know if I will ever get to visit your shop, but I check the NEW list all the time. You are a very gifted designer. God bless you this Christmas.
Anything that can help these aging eyes is great, and these rulers are a huge help.I’ve been buying a few at a time to replace my old ones.
Glad you are feeling better, Lisa. Your story about Nick making you go through the catalogs and mark things you like reminds me of the days my daughter used to go through the old Sears Wish Book. Only I wished she wouldn’t mark so much stuff (she claimed some of it was for her birthday, which is OCTOBER 23rd!). And I am definitely going to look over my rulers to see if I have an excuse to get a new one or two. If not, well, I’m sure I did something to deserve it anyway. Betty
I love reading your blog. And seeing all the pictures. You have many creative ideas and I wish I had only just a touch of that. Enjoy decorating your tree!
Lisa, you are amazing, Even when you don’t feel good you think of us.
I was just noticing the other day that my 6×24 ruler has some nicks in it.
I have a feeling I will be wanting all of the 12 needful things.
Thanks for all the great tips.
I have to do the same thing for my husband, except he never does the shopping himself – he has our daughter do it. Glad to hear I’m not the only one without a decorated Christmas tree yet!
How fun to look at all of the rulers on your website. I saw a few that are new to me!
I hope you are on the mend, it must be something going on in the fox valley. Amanda and I traveled down from our respective homes on Dec 1st for daughter Brandy’s nursing program Pinning ceremony at tech on the 2nd. Anyway, by the end of the week Amanda was congested, etc too. hmmm.
We got to stop by the store for a nano second (had the kids with us) and it looks fabulous!! Great job of dressing it up (as usual ) for the holidays.
So, you are so right to be in love with the right tools. I have slowly been investing in the various sizes, and I do like the Creative Grid ones since I have had bifocals forever it seems and visibility is really important when using sharp objects. I think it’s time to replace my old 6.5 size!!
Merry Christmas to you and the fam.
peggy
I think it is time to update my ruler connection, I will check into Creative Grid rulers. Thanks for the suggestion.
That is suppose to be ruler collection!
I hear you about having so many rulers! And while I only have the 8.5 square Creatve Grids so far, it is one of my new favorites.
I’ve been using creative grid rulers for years and love them. They are the only ruler in my sewing room! Might be time to replace a few tho.
Yes, I read it all the way through and looking forward to tomorrow’s. Looks like I needed to purchase a creative grid ruler. I always wondered if the large dots on the ruler made it hard to see.
Love the look of these rulers. Mine do need to be upgraded!
Rulers look interesting
Thanks Lisa! I’m hearing more and more about these new Creative Grids rulers, I may have to give them a try! I love all of your helpful hints….Merry Quilting!
Lisa, I hope you are beginning to feel better. I think you are wonderful for encouraging everyone to shop their local shops. And, I loved the seam ripper yesterday, really want to get some of the rulers, and last year, I think I got everything you recommended
Lisa,
Glad to hear you are feeling “a little” better. Followers, we got to use and borrow this ruler and they are GREAT you can see the lines and marks so clearly. Definately ones that will be replacing some others in my OLD ruler collection.
I have one of these and love it. Will be adding more to my collection. I have been looking forward to this. I enjoyed it so much last year. Thanks.
Since the hubs has already gotten my Christmas gifts they will go on my birthday wish list. Bifocals–have had them for years—-and a special “computer only” pair of glasses—getting older isn’t fun.
After 24 years if quilting it is probably time for me to upgrade my rulers. Thanks for the recommendation. I will definitely check my local quilt shop.
I’ve slowly been replacing rulers….I think Creative Grids are my favorite.
Lisa, thanks for all the helpful info you send to us through your blog. I too have a ruler that is nicked along the edges and am looking to replace it. I so enjoy reading all your blogs. Merry Christmas!
So I am thinking that I started sewing about 20 years ago and that if I were to take a look at my trusty rulers I would indeed notice that they are nicked and faded. I could’ve time to consider replacement of my trusty favs, which include the 12 and 1/2 inch square and a couple of the long ones I use for cutting borders and squaring up!
Glad you’re on the mend!
Thank you for your great ideas as always! Glad to hear you are feeling better too. Lisa, I left a message at the shop about your Moda Blog and haven’t heard back. Let me know, please.
Thank you!
This sounds like a great ruler! It is nice hearing your thoughts on these items – things that I probably would not have checked out at the store (since I am looking at all the beautiful things there). So now we know all your little secrets lol
Of course I read it to the end ! I love hearing your great suggestions. You really did my me stop and rethink what rulers I use and how they are designed. Thanks for the information.
Love these rulers and I need to replace some of my old ones as they are nicked and faded too. Hope to win!
I love my Creative Grid rulers. They are the best! My favorite size is the 6 1/2″ square.
So glad you are beginning to feel better. Thanks for the 12 Needful things again this year. I love my creative grids rulers and these new ones look great . I enjoy all your helpful hints.
Those Creative Grid rulers are awesome. I’m on a mission to replace my old ones, and maybe add a couple new sizes. More is better!
I love your Needful Things but I have to admit, I very much enjoyed reading (and learning) about your going through them analogs and choosing what you want for Christmas from Nick. You, Lisa, are brilliant! I’m going to use that same idea but using websites instead. I am now off to the Primitive Gatherings site to make my list. Forgive him when he calls in his order for me…he is not good at this! Thanks for the posts!
Lol…catalogs, not analogs!
I read it to the end….one can never have enough rulers…
Donna
These look like really nice rulers! Can’t wait to get some. Sounds like you are feeling better.
Love the rulers, I should probably replace some of mine…glad you are feeling better! Thanks for the giveaway!
I really like the Creative Rulers that I have, especially the square ones. Makes squaring up blocks so easy.
So glad you are feeling better. I have started noticing nicks on some of my most used rulers. That darn cutter justs seems to jump the curve once and awhile. Oh and the eyes…now I can blame the ruler for that problem. I see new rulers in the future. Thanks for the chance. So look forward to this every year. Merry Christmas, Gloria
I KNOW! Aren’t the new Creative Grid rulers the greatest? I’ve already replaced my 4.5×6.5 and my 16.5 square! Next on my replacement list is the 6.5×18 (or24). Thanks for posting your list! Also like you, my tree has been standing, naked for the week. Today is the day! Well, after some quilting 🙂
Thanks for the chance to upgrade a ruler! and Merry Christmas!
Glad you are feeling better! No fun being sick during the holidays. I look forward to your post everyday . I am looking to replace some of my rulers so this is a great time to do so! Thank you!
Glad to hear you’re feeling better. I think it might be time to start switching out some of my rulers. Those look great! Merry Christmas everyone.
Morning Lisa, Yeah, feeling better and decorating a tree are wonderful signs. Congrats to the winner and oh the new rulers are great! You are so right about using them for 1/2′ sections. Thanks for sharing all your great ideas. Blessings and smiles, Emilou 🙂
Glad you are feeling better. I am going to check out these rulers. Thanks for the tips.
So enjoy reading the Needful Things blogs. I love to read/see what other quilters like to use and why! I have a small Creative Grids ruler that is 2.5″ wide and I leave it on my cutting table as I use it ALL the time to trim up/cut smaller strips and blocks. I like it best because it DOESN’T SLIP! Would love to win another size!
I really like the old Creative Grid rulers. I am looking forward to trying the new rulers.
I borrowed a 16 1/2 inch square Creative Grid ruler to square up applique blocks. I loved it! I couldn’t have squared up those 16 1/2 blocks without it. I do need to get some for myself. Thank you for your creative ideas.
Glad you are feeling better Lisa. Merry Christmas to you and Nick. You are right. My rulers have faded too. I thought my eyes were “going” on me. I already have my blended bys!
Sounds like you are better. I do what you do with Nick only I even purchase my gift and get my husband to wrap it…he LOVES it!!!
Thank-you so much Lisa for doing the 12 needful things again this year. I enjoyed last years so much and appreciated learning about products I was unaware of. Glad you are feeling better. I just stopped at my local quilt store, Little Quilts, this morning and picked up the seam-fix ripper you mentioned in yesterday’s post for a couple of my favorite quilting friends. I recently purchased my first creative grids ruler, the fat quarter ruler, Kathy Brown helped design it. It has extra anti slip grid on it and is amazing. I want all creative grid rulers now. Merry Christmas!
I love that my favorite online shops are having Christmas sales! Having yours the last weeks before Christmas is good because I can afford to buy some me things now that my shopping is done! Thank you!!a,
Lisa, glad you are feeling better….Nick is a keeper- how sweet to make sure he gets you something special that you will like. : ) I need all the help I can get when cutting; my rulers are pretty old and now would be a good time to start upgrading.
I still cut with scissors, and forgot how I began my lines before I decided to treat myself to a 6×12 ruler. I do everything with it.
Lisa, I love your 12 Needful things for Christmas ! You always find some great things that we didn’t know we needed till you mention them! BTW LOVE the snow on this post!!! At first I thought it was my computer…….then I followed it up and realized “Its Snow” LOVE IT !!!
Wow! How great to pick your own gifts from catalogs–that is a sweet husband!
I have been drooling over the creative grids rulers for years! I don’t have any of them. I guess i just couldn’t justify buying more rulers when I have a couple of the basic sizes. I think mine are Omni-grid and quilt in a day—definitely oldies! I’d love to upgrade to some new Omnigrids! Glad you are feeling better!
Yes, I did read all the way to the bottom! I definitely need to start updating my rulers.
Glad your feeling better! I need to replace some of mine. Have a great day!
I was able to try the Creative Grid rulers at a quilt show this year. And as my rulers wear out I will be replacing them with this brand. I especially like the anti slip surface, and I found the measuring lines were clear and easy to follow. Glad you are feeling better. Happy Holidays.
One quilter can never have enough needful things and rulers are the best. I like my 6 1/2 best. I love that you are doing 12 needful things again. I got many good tips last year and sure I will this year, too. Thanks!
I would love to win new rulers! It’s one of those things you forget to replace.
Sent from Samsung tablet
I love your 12 days of Christmas. You show me notions that I have and don’t have. And like any good quilter you need all the new gadgets. thanks again, glad your feeling better.
Cheryl
I love creative grid rulers. I am glad you are feeling better. Any ruler that helps me cut more accurate to make my piecing go together better and make quilting even MORE fun , we’ll sign me up for it! Keep up the great tips.
These rulers sound great. I have not tried them yet, but your post makes me think that I need to get some. Merry Christmas
So glad you are feeling better…glad I am not the only one who does the tree in stages…LOL !
I too have been updating my rulers…believe it or not I still have a couple old yellow lined ones. Love the needful things advice…you make us all feel like an old friend! The best part of having quilter/woolie friends! Aren’t you just lovin the snow and cold of the season? We are at out cabin in WNY and it seems like an old fashion Christmas outside…we are blessed! Thanks for all you do Lisa!!!
I have been using the “Kaye England – ‘Cure’ Rulers” for years and they are getting pretty worn out…looks like these will be the ones I begin replacing my old rulers with. I love having the “1/2 inch” marks highlighted…it makes it faster and easier for cutting. Thanks again for sharing your tips and needful things again this year.
I’ve only been quilting for less than ten years, and much more these last five…rulers are the very pulse of what I do. To find out they’ve been updated makes me wonder which I need to work on replacing!! Thanks for the favorites!
Glad you’re feeling better, Lisa. It’s snowing like crazy in New Jersey so I, too, am decorating my tree. It seems like the perfect setting for that. The only thing that could make it better would be the smell of Christmas cookies baking in the kitchen. Well, maybe tomorrow.I recently bought one of the new Creative Grids ruler and really love it.It seems so much easier to see the lines than the previous style of her rulers. I loved the older style and didn’t think they could be improved upon, but she really managed to do so!
I tried regular bifocals, no line bifocals, bifocal contacts….good grief getting older is a pain. 🙂 I went back to readers and they seem to work best for me. I’m just thankful something works! blessings, marlene
My rulers show some wear and tear also. I find myself using the same few rulers all the time. Maybe it is time for me to break that habit. Glad you are feeling better.
My rulers are old, coming up on 20 years so I think that it’s time to upgrade. Mine have a few nicks in them and the lines are wearing thin also. Thanks for the tip.
Just found your blog, Lisa. I like the looks of the projects I see. A new ruler in black and white would certainly be useful. I think I’d start with the 6 1/2 x 12 1/2–perfect for fat quarter cutting. Thank you.
What a wonderful idea – new rulers! I often look at mine and wonder just how long I hang on to them. But I have to admit, I’m really attached to a few of them – my 6 1/2″ square and my 18″x5″. Being frugal, it’s hard to justify replacing “perfectly good” items – but a sale!!
These rulers look great. I just got my first pair of no line bifocals too. I wasn’t too thrilled, but I can see much better now. Good luck with your decorating.
Creative grid rulers are my favorite. Can’t wait to try the updated version. My tree has been sitting with just lights for a week also. I plan on decorating it today. Get Well!
I love love luv these creative grid rulers! I’ve already started replacing mine bc the new ones r easier to read!!!
Lisa, I am so glad that you are feeling better. I have looked at those seam rippers but wasn’t sure how well they really worked. I will have to get each size. I have a couple of the creative rulers and they are very nice. Will have to replace some of my old ones!!! Can’t wait to see tomorrow’s item.
I think Nick has the best idea for getting you what you want for Christmas! No returns-Ha! I will be receiving my new bifocals next week for my aging eyes. These rulers look like they will be helpful to everyone-clear markings, etc. I need all the help I can get. Give your puppies a hug for me. We lost our precious 8-1/2 year old black lab, Sophie, this week, and our hearts are broken. She was very ill and we exhausted all means to save her. I know she is in a better place now, but it is so hard to lose a family member. Hope you are feeling better. Take care.
These rulers sound very interesting. Mine are about 15 yrs old and terribly nicked up and need to be replaced. One even looks as tho it had a bite taken out of the corner! Time for new ones. Not sure what to replace first. Probably the 6.5″ x 24
I also love your needful things lists. I still have last years saved on my computer. I have hung on to a very old 8″ wide, ruler, because,I have never found a replacement . Soooo happy to see a new improved replacement available! Happy Holidays.
Lisa ..I agree about those Creative Grid rulers ,especially the black markings for 1/2 in …I liked my 91/2′ ruler and it must have gotten lost at a retreat! and the 12-15″is ackward to use so I’d love some more Creative grid Rulers. Hope that Cough is improving…

The Needful Things List is a such a great idea, and put us in touch with new and improved quilting items that all we quilters need and want. We quilters are a needy bunch, aren’t we! LOL d have quite I love, love, love rulers and have quite a collection of them at this time, but will save this post for future reference. Happy you are feeling better.
Glad to hear you are feeling a “bit” better. I love the creative grid rulers. I am grateful that my fellow quilters allow me to use their creative grid rulers at our sewing group. Happy decorating today.
Have also started collecting the Creative Grid rulers myself and have been giving then as gifts to my mom. We both love them. So glad your feeling better, and I think Nick has the best idea ever for coming up with Christmas ideas, might try that on my hubby, hopefully he is smart enough to get the hint. Also, have to say it was a pleasure to meet you in person at the Houston Quilt Show this year.
I love my Creative Grids rulers–thanks for the chance to add to my collection!
Hi Lisa – I love the Creative Grid rulers and the one that I would not want to be without is the 2 ½ x 12 ½! It’s so handy and works great along side the small square rulers. Your needful things list is great.
You are so right…these redesigned rulers rock!!!
I love finding out what you consider to be must haves for quilters. I just read yesterdays and have to agree 100% with you there …I have it on my wish list
I may not get to quilt as much as I’d like but I do love my tools. One can never have too many rulers. These look great.
These rulers look great! Some of mine are showing signs of wear so thanks for the recommendation for the Creative Grid rulers.
Hi Lisa, I love creative grid rulers too! I was very tempted to buy some on my recent visit, but wasn’t sure how I’d get them on the plane, as I need sone big ones. I think it’s a great gift idea for Santa this year, and will send him the link with sizes I’m dreaming of. 😀
Merry Quilting back to you! Thanks for your creativity and your tips.
I have a ruler that was dropped on the floor & one side has a chunk missing so when I use it to cut I have to flip it around to the other side. Happy holidays
I have two creative grids rulers and just love them, so am keen to get more. Thank you for your great blog.
Lisa,
I totally know what you’re referring to about husbands not knowing what to buy us!!! Heck, I think I’m easy!
Glad to hear you’re feeling better! Thanks for the great review on the rulers….I’ll be sure to try them! I always look forward to your emails!
Merry Christmas to you and your family!
Christie
I have never noticed these rulers before…I will have to check them out soon as I seriously doubt Santa would even know what & which ruler I would want!
Merry Christmas!
Tammy
Lisa, I am glad to hear you are feeling better. Bifocals…..wait to you upgrade to trifocals!! LOL! I fought it for years but finally gave in and I am so glad, but it did take awhile to get use to them. I am using the Omni rulers I bought when I started quilting just a few years ago. They are okay, but I do hope to replace them with Creative Grid rulers someday. That will have to wait a little longer as my husband lost his bank job just over 18 months ago because of a merger and has not been able to find a new one so my quilting budget is on hold. Well, I’m off to put up our tree now….we don’t like to put it up too early because our two cats seem to think that it is a new toy for them every year. 😀
Merry Christmas!
Angelia
I think I’ll need to try out one of these rulers as it’s definitely getting more challenging to see the markings on my rulers. As for making suggestions for Christmas gifts, I now make a list of suggestions every year…ever since my husband bought me (no kidding here)…a whole box of assorted sizes of food storage containers. 🙁
Merry Christmas Lisa. So happy you are feeling better. Love your 12 days.
Creative Grid rulers are the best, I am gradually replacing my rulers so they are consistent.
Love the idea of them coming in so many sizes! Thanks for the fun 12 days of ideas and sales!
I am a believer that to do good work you need good tools. Time for replacements!
Bifocals…….yup……one day you wake up and someone has changed the font size on everything!
Glad you are feeling better!
