Which needles to use with what threads… Lots of pages to record your three stranded flosses, 5-8-and 12 wt threads.
A little section on wool appliqué and using steam-a-seam2 light. Recommended tools for working with wool.
A section for future threads….Basic Stitch diagrams for all those embroidery stitches, with diagrams the way I stitch them.
A section to list your projects and threads you may need when you get to the quilt show or a shop…
A Note section for projects you want to buy next!!! So you can see this little book has lots of good things that you can keep in your purse for whenever you need it!
So many stitchers are in the booth trying to pick out threads and they don’t know what they already have at home…so now…a great needful thing…Valdani Thread Book!
Thread books are $10. or 2 for $18! We will manually adjust the price if you buy more than one…This would be a great present for your woolie friends! Order your book here VALDANI THREAD BOOK
REMEMBER TO LEAVE A COMMENT TO WIN A BOOK WE CAN GIVE A LOT OF THESE AWAY!!! Tell me what the best part of your Christmas is…
How are you doing on your Christmas prep? I did a some decorating on Sunday and the tree last night…Here are a few pics of what the Bongean house looks like…sorry these are a little dark…but its been rainy and gloomy. God…Please send us some snow!!! Wisconsin is not good in December without any snow! The snow is very pretty…this rainy mess is not!
I’ve tried to mix it up and use some different quilts this year…I love the scrappy Christmas block quilt that the shop girls made me for Christmas one year…The Christmas Reel quilt is from one of my first fabric lines and is made extrordinary with Linda’s (thequiltedpineapple.com) quilting. The Buggy Barn crazy tree quilt I bought at a benefit action because it was going to go for so little money that I bid a decent amount for it and took it home! It was made by Nancy Dey, Kaukauna WI.
This is the first year I have not shopped for new Christmas decor…that might have something to do with moving in Feb. I will miss this house…we have been here for almost 13 years…that is the longest I have ever lived in one place on my own…Nick & I purchased Northridge when we were still working in the paper mill and before we opened Primitive Gatherings.

This looks like a terrific book to have and to keep my own records.
My favorite part of Christmas is the family all getting together. That rarely happens any other time of the year. And I love all the lights. The pics of your home are lovely. Thanks for sharing.
What a great idea!
That is a beautiful home you have made for your family.
Gathering family is my favorite part of Chrisrmas!
Your home is beautiful! I’m sure you will miss the familiarity of the old house, but all of the possibilities of a new one are so exciting. Wishing you and yours the Merriest of Christmases!
I would be hard-pressed to have just ‘one’ favorite part of Christmas, but the candy making I do every year is really up there pretty close to first place! I usually make double batches of 6 or 8 different candy recipes for gifts. The house just smells wonderful! Your house looks so pretty and so festive. Thank you for the giveaway – AND all you do through out the year.
Merry Christmas!
Barbara in TN
I have been wanting one of those books, thanks Lisa! Loved all your Christmas Pictures, thanks for sharing.
Getting my my kids and grandkids together and buying their “Santa” gifts to see their little faces in excitement is my favorite.
My favorite part of Christmas is being able to see Christmas through the eyes of my little grandsons. I just love their awe and excitement. When I am with them, I appreciate all the simple joys of the holidays.
What a wonderful “Needful” item ! Thanks !
You inspire me at how much you get done at this busy time of year! Your home looks lovely! I have ordered both days needful things and have them on hold. Thanks
The best part of Christmas is when I go home. My Mom and Dad are right there at the door – smiling, eyes shiny with tears, and hugs, oh those hugs, some of the best ever. It makes everything right.
Melanie…thats a great part!!!
What a wonderful book!

I can’t wait to get this book! I never knew you had these and I’m so excited!
Thank you for sharing pictures of your lovely home!
Another great idea from Lisa. Love it and will definitely buy one! Thank you!
Our favorite family tradition is our stockings. The original red felt with holiday appliqués and sequins was given to me when I was a baby and I have made matching ones for my husband, children, children’s spouses, grandchildren and even dogs! They are totally kitsch but we all love them and remind us of family even when we can’t be together.
Oh Lisa, your house looks beautiful. I really don’t know how you find the time for all you do. Best wishes on your move going smoothly. Yikes, I can not even imagine how much work it would be to move. Can’t wait to see photos of your new sewing space. Do you have a place all picked out for your fabric stash?
My favorite part of Christmas is time with family. I love going to church on Xmas eve and then after we all open one gift, always PJ’s or lounge wear, change into our new comfy clothes and sit in the family room with all the candles lit and tree lights and enjoy each other’s company and some cocktails. So peaceful. Wishing you a wonderful blessed Christmas and time to sit with the ones you love.
What a great idea and it sounds perfect!!!!
Th best part of Christmas is gathering with family and friends to focus on Jesus.
I think the best part of Christmas this year will be having our 10 month old grandson with us. Not that he’s going to understand what’s going on,but just having him around is a joy. (And it’s been lots of fun shopping for him, too! )
I agree Margaret…our grandsons are the same age!!!
I love your wool stockings! I will have to add them to my list to make for next year.
I love having grandchildren at Christmas time. They are so fun!
We’re in Florida this year so Christmas is a little different from normal. It’s not like Christmas at home in Michigan! Your house looks beautiful and I can’t wait to get my needful book!! Thanks for doing the 12 days again too!!
The best part of Christmas is when everyone is back home where we all belong! My husband and I also just found out yesterday that we’re going to be first time grandparents!!! Best gift ever!!!
I’m not having very good luck leaving a comment here. I bought one of these little books last weekend. It will be very handy, I should have bought another one as a gift for my friend in Minneapolis.
The house looks amazing even in the gloomy, rainy weather!! We have an easy Christmas prep because we are traveling to see family this year.
The book looks like an awesome “needful thing.”
The best part of Christmas is seeing the joy on my grandchildren faces and being together. This year my daughter and her family are stationed overseas but we will face time with them so we can all be together that way.
What a great book for resource!! My favorite part of Christmas is family getting together. From my mom and dad who are 83 and 86 to my 2 year old grandson. Thankful for them all. They are my life’s blessings!
This book looks awesome. The best part of Christmas for me is spending time with family and watching the excitement of my grandkids. Decorations are all up just need to wrap gifts. Your home looks beautiful!
Love the tree quilt,I have made this and always wanted to make another one.family is my favorite part of Xmas.
The book are awesome idea! Hope to win
I knew you always used valdani threads and am curious to maybe start using them as well, but the cost of them has always kept me from them. Your book looks great and would maybe help me get a start on the threads!
Love your website but especially you Christmas Decorations, looking forward to having family gather for the holidays.
My favorite part of Christmas is just reveling in the fact that we still have our health and can welcome our family into our home in the woods where we share love, joy and laughter!
Your Home is always so Pretty this time of the year! Love the new book, it is a Must To Have! My favorite part of Christmas is doing something nice for Christmas for others so they will also have a nice Christmas. This is a Very Nice time of the year, but also a sad time for a lot of folks….
The best part of Christmas for me is celebrating with family and friends.
For me, the best part of Christmas is family. We were an Army family for years and often didn’t have family around. Friends can be a wonderful way to celebrate, but now that my husband retired, it is awesome to live close to family. I love seeing you quilts and other decorations. Like you, other than the two ornaments I collect each year, and maybe a new quilt or two, I haven’t bought any new decorations. Thanks for the great info and for the chance to win.
Your home looks wonderful, especially with all the beautiful quilts hanging all over 😉 I love it when our son & his family come for Christmas (every time they come is wonderful) and the youngest always says…”Grandma, we can stay for 4 days” or however many they can at that time. Grandchildren are wonderful at every age and make Christmas even more special. I have a wool project to make for Chrstmas gifts, I better fly. Thank you for all you share with us, your fans. Merry Christmas.
My favorite thing about Christmas is watching my grandchildren open their presents!
Good morning Lisa, Your home is lovely. I love the quiet warmth of the quilts and colors. I try to use winter themes as we travel to see our son and grands over Christmas week. Snowmen, quilts, greenery, pinecones and since our name is Wood lots of birch-look candles. Our new and skinnier tree is decorated with pinecones, red berries, handmade icicles and birds. Next year I want to use Downeast Thunder’s wool birds. Have you seen her site? Amazing! I have not seen this book before but I definitely need it!! I am the one who always buys something I already have and forget the one I need. Thanks for all the fun!
I love Christmas music. I have at least six different versions of “The Christmas Song” and I love them all!
The best part of Christmas now is obviously the grandchildren, 4, 2 and 2. But it is also seeing my children interact with their children. I love being a grandmother!
This little book is cute and helpful. I’ll get one and get organized.
I look forward to visiting with friends and family. Things slow down, for just a few days!
I own this book and LOVE it! It has saved me money by NOT buying more of what I already own! Lol! Many times I would just buy more thread as I could not remember what I had at home – that’s not such a terrible thing but it gives me more money to spend on other things!
Thanks to you, I am a confessed “wool applique-aholic.” (That’s a good thing – I think!) Of course that means I have to try a keep track of what threads I am using for which project. I have found your wool swatch booklet valuable as it lists thread numbers that go along with your dyed wools – very handy when placing an order. This book sounds like the organization I could use. Your home is sparklingly beautiful.
The best part of Christmas is having my husband, sons, daughter-in-law and 1 year old grandson together. Any day we are together is the best day ! The fun of Christmas with a small child is beginning again !
Th best part of Christmas is waiting up for Santa with snow lightly falling.
I think this book is a wonderful genius idea. Everyone should want one. I would love to win one.
I look forward to being with family for the Christmas season. I am making the long drive from Colorado to south Texas(18 hours), but hearing a 7 year old grandaugter saying “Grandma you finally got here” makes it all worth it.
I am ordering the Valdani Thread Book!
Merry Christmas! The book is definitely on my needful things list. I’ve been needing to keep track of my threads. Jeanine
The best part of Christmas are all the good memories of Christmas I am 80 years old so I have lots of great memories. And hopes for many more to come.
Beautiful Christmas decorations Lisa! This is the first year that I have an artificial tree… takes a little getting used to. But beautiful. Now I want some snow.
Merry Christmas! Your house with it’s warm decorations so tastefully done looks amazing. I still have much to do for the holidays and am currently knitting a Christmas stocking that needs to get done by the 20th! It’s my first sock ever and at the heel stage so am feeling very confused just now .
This book looks like it would be a huge asset for those valdani threads and other tidbits you need while wool working, thanks for the chance.
Your home is decorated so pretty for Christmas. The book is a wonderful idea!
I think my favorite part is getting together with family and friends and looking at their decorations. Having them tell me the stories behind them.
Spending time with family and friends is so precious. Love, love, love the pictures of your home…beautiful!
Lots of fabulous inspirational information and pictures. Thank you for sharing. Fabulous new book. Great idea.
Oh LISA! We just moved before Thanksgiving after living in our little house for 17 years. We didn’t think we had a lot of stuff because we had not much storage. Moving (even with lots of help) is not for the WEAK! It is all done now and Christmas with our sons and their beautiful little daughters (we have 2 new granddaughters!) will be a chance to slow down a little. Good luck n your move! I love and need any type of organization–love the book!
The best part of Christmas, after remembering the reason, is spending time with family and friends.
Christmas is now so fun with 3 little grandsons Just old enough now to get excited. I too like you just moved from home we lived in for 13 years and was also the longest I had lived in ever. keep up all your hard work, we all love what you do.
I love all the music! And I love the idea of a book like this. I keep a journal of my quilts!
I love all Christmas!!! I have two granddaughters I wrap every one of their present, they get so excited they can’t wait for Christmas.
I don’t think I could leave a house like yours..,.it’s beautiful! Still decorating for Christmas, and am looking forward to spending it with Family. I hope to have more handmade creations adorning the house in the years to come. The needle and thread book looks like a must-have!
Another amazing tool… I have just this issue and lots of the same threads. Thanks for your creative solution. I’d love to win this!
Moving is always Bittersweet, but with so much for the Bongean family to look forward to, a new house, new shop, new grand-baby, will turn into a wonderful 2016 for you all. I wish myself a great new 2016, as well, and a new magnetic bowl from Jake, and a new book would make it sweeter. Have a great holiday. Is the Cali part of family coming back home? Love to Miss Terri. Can’t wait for February!!!!
What a handy little book to keep organized! Would love to have one of these. One of my favorite things about Christmas is sitting quietly in the evenings with the Christmas tree lit and reflecting on all the wonderful memories of Christmases past.
The best part of Christmas for me this year is having my youngest daughter at home with us. She went through some difficult times the past year but is trying to get her life back together. Proof for me that God does answer a mother’s prayer. Also thankful to have two of six grandkids near. Merry Christmas!!
Ah yes…. best part of Christmas is remembering loved family members that have passed away… as I prepare their favourite foods for our traditional Christmas meals…. sometimes teary but very special feelings that warm my heart
.
Best part of my Christmas is hot chocolate and marshmallows with my grandchildren watching me stir until they can have some at their Gammy’s house. The warmth of the fire and the lights of the tree and then present guessing while the grandkids wait for Santa.
I love finding some quiet time to sit by the tree and do my favorite handwork (wool). I would love to win your book as I’m usually an organized person but find I buy duplicate threads from time to time!
The best part of Christmas is sharing the joy of the season with my grandchildren!! Your little book looks great! I need some organization with my threads!!
Celebrating the reason for season and being with family and friends is tops on my list. Thank you for publishing the thread book, a great tool, which I need. Thanks for sharing your home with us, beautiful!
My favorite part of Christmas is having all my family together. And I love all the baked goods, beautiful decorations and Christmas carols.
Happy home, happy hearts. Have a truly wonderful Christmas!
Decorating is beautiful as always. I can honestly say I need one of these booklets. I have thread notes everywhere.
one thing I really like is the stitch examples
With the creation of this book, you are reading my mind Lisa! I have enough valdani threads that I can’t remember what I have! Keep meaning to write down what I have , color and thickness, but I still haven’t! Thank you Lisa!!!
I love finding a few minutes each day to just sit and enjoy the season.
The thread book sounds like a very helpful thing! Today is my last day of work as a School Nurse as I am having foot surgery tomorrow. I had my other foot done back in June so I know what I am in for. Long recovery, but I will be patient and realize the outcome is what counts! My goal is to be sprinting by spring so I am ready for Paducah!
Christmas preparation was fun but busy as I needed to get everything done by today. All my gifts have been purchased, decorating complete, gifts wrapped, and baking done. Now I am ready to just relax, and heal, and enjoy my family! I have blocks from both last year’s and this year’s BOW ready to work on while I remain unable to walk. I have a lot to keep myself busy! My four children will be coming home for Christmas- this makes me so happy!!! My youngest, who has been in Spain(studying abroad) is coming home this weekend! I can’t wait to hear of all of her adventures! Merry Christmas to all!
How do I tell you that I want to add more things during needful things and I ordered the book but want to keep it in my cart until last day.
May the holiday season fill you with peace and joy, Sharon💒

Reflection. hope, enjoyment of family and traditions
Thanks for everything you do
This book is more like a “must have” thing!! What a great gift idea too.
What a wonderful idea.
This book is my favorite. It is so nice to open to the number and see if I have the color and the correct weight. It will help me avoid dupicating colors, which has been so frustrating. So fun to see your beautiful Christmas decorations. I need a primitive decorater! This Christmas our 5 kids and 12 grandkids will all be here and we are so excited. It’s been almost 6 years since we were all together. It will be crazy and chaotic with all 24 of us under one roof for 3 days, but it will be heavenly! Thanks again for all you do and have a fun Christmas with your darling grandson!
Love this time of year! My house is lit from top to bottom. Also love the magnetic bowls…they are great!
What a great way to keep up with the Valdani threads…. your home looks so festive. Merry Christmas.
I can feel your house miss. I live in a 125 year old house that I completely renovated and it is up for sale. I know when it sells, I will be house broken, haha. I love this old house but it is way to big for two people in their seventies. Your pictures look cozy and inviting, filled with your personal touch, that’s why I love your shop so much.
I have looked and looked for something exactly like this – what a great idea!!!! And your Christmas quilts are simply gorgeous!!
That’s hard to say, but probably decorating. Sounds like it might be the same for you as well. I love getting out the quilts and woven things and cross stitch items that I have made over the years. This year I made some Santa dolls which were so fun to do and so unique. And decorating the tree with so many memories. I taught Seond Grade for many years many years ago and I still have the ornaments that kids made and gave me.
The best part of Christmas is spreading love and joy and remembering the miracle of the Savior’s birth and His love for each of us.
This book is great! Now I can keep up with the thread collection! Merry Christmas.
I definitely need this thing! Your decorations are very beautiful. My favorite part of Christmas was having all of my kids home. Xoxo
My favorite part of Christmas is the decorating and cooking for family and friends. This Friday I am going to enjoy some sewing time. Years ago my sister-in-law and I were always busy, busy finishing up making Christmas presents for everyone. It was so fun to chat on the phone or in letters each week to see where we were at with our gifts. Yes before email, text etc. I still make some presents..but not as many as I use to. Next year everyone will get the little wool trees on their presents.
Wow! Would so love to win this book. It would be perfect for a beginner like me ❤️ Sue
I love the lights and all the happy kids!! Definitely need one of these books.
My favorite Christmas activities are baking cookies and going out to get a beautiful tree from the woods. We usually go as a family, but this year our oldest son is in the army over in Jordan and will not be home for Christmas. We will miss being together, but my younger two will be here! One with his new bride!
I will take one book and one of the magnetic bowls from yesterday’s 12 days
What an awesome little book and I could surely use one. Lisa we just moved and closed on our house last Thursday. We had been there 13 years too. It’s the longest we had ever lived in one house. We gained 2 son-in- laws and 6 grand kids in that house. We have moved into a new duplex to live while we have our retirement home built this summer. I’m up to my eyeballs in boxes so not much Christmas around here this year. We will go find it when we make the rounds to see the kids.
OMG that’s me trying to decide what thread I need in the store. How do I not know of this book? You should display it right next to the treadsď
Yes, it would be hard to give up your beautiful home! Love your decorating, got a few ideas for myself. Love the idea of the little book. It would help me so much. Have to get one.
This little book has been wonderful! No guessing about the threads I have, plus all the information in it are helpful. I love decorating my home and sharing the season with my family.
This book looks like a lifesaver. And your home looks like you, warm and inviting. You must share pictures of your new house. I’m sure it will be beautiful.
My favorite part of Christmas is keeping the tradition of making all the Norwegian goodies my family loves and sharing them with my 89 year old dad! Thanks for sharing pictures of your beautiful home. You’ll make any house a “home”! Enjoy your new one!
Thank you for sharing how you decorate as well as the book!
What a great idea, and nice way to keep track of all my valdani threads. This year my favorite part of Christmas is my brand new 1st grandchild born 2 weeks ago. “Little” Madeline only weighed 11 lbs, but that’s okay, more to love.
What a great booklet that I think I need. Thanks for these useful items showcase.
The little book will be useful to record the threads I have. I write it down on a piece of paper and lose it. The best part of Christmas for me is when my son comes home. He is a pilot in the Canadian Forces. He’ll be going overseas in a couple of months so I really want to enjoy every moment with him.
What a great way to keep an unorganized person organized!!
The Valdani book is a great idea. I buy duplicate things so often because I don’t know what I have…my bad!
I love working with wool, it is so addictive! And Valdani is my all time favorite thread, along with your needles! !
I never remember totally what threads I have—-the book is a great thing…..
Your home s so polished! I love the look! My favorite part of the holiday is just hanging arou d house with out daughters here to enjoy. with, theres nothing better than that!
The best part of Christmas is sharing with family & continuing traditions that have been passed down through the years. I have fond memories of waking up Christmas morning to see what goodies Santa left under the tree. Yes, I still believe!
Sorry, my ipad seems to be skipping letters! It is meant to say, “hanging around the house with our daughters here to enjoy it with!
My favorite thing about Christmas is spending time with family and seeing the all the kids so excited. Decorating is done and enjoying them. This book looks awesome and your home looks beautiful
The thread book would be such a great resource…i’m just starting to get into some woolie things:) The best for me is to see our kids and grandkids since we are all spread out from NYC to Nashville to MN! I agree about the snow too……bring it on!!
My second favorite thing about Christmas is getting my Christmas quilts hung. Some of them I forget I have so they’re ‘new’ all over again! The best part of Christmas will be sharing the day with my 3yo grandson and 5 month old grandson. Little Davis is full of energy and loves to show me all of the decorations he’s hung on his little Christmas tree. The little ones are so important this time of year.
The very best part is being with my kids and grandkids but before they arrive the best part for me is getting all my ornaments out and enjoying all the memories. I buy ornaments on trips and collect snowman ornaments and Texas Capital ornaments.
I got to visit your Wisconsin shop in October, it was amazing. Thanks for all your wonderful creativity.
Merry Christmas to you and your family and your staff!
I love the dough bowl!!! I have one in the basement I totally forgot about – Thanks for the inspiration!
The best part of Christmas is the part of being with family and celebrating and doing our little traditions. It is such a festive time and it seems to draw each other just a bit closer.
Cathy ♥
Lovely holiday decorations…..So festive.
The best part of Christmas is being together as a family.
Every year I look forward to all the 12 days of Christmas sales.. I am so glad you have one”
I enjoy the extra family time and all the festivities.
Being with my husband ☺️
My favorite part of Christmas is being with family. Thanks for the chance to win.
This looks like a very useful book. thank you for sharing, if I don’t win will definitely order one for myself
I love getting Chrisrmas letters telling me what everyone has been up to, especially the people I don’t get to see often enough. I need that book!
Christmas is my favorite time of year. Sitting by the lighted tree, rocking in my Great Grandmothers wooden rocking chair, covered up with a quilt…the time for self reflection and thanksgiving for my family and how blessed I am. It is a peaceful time for me that I am so thankful for.
I love the smell of the house with Christmas cookies baking , and my DH waiting to eat a few warms ones :0). I spend more time at my machine during Dec. now that the kids have grown. We get to see them after Christmas but we still share the fun and joy of Christmas together when we can. Thanks for the chance to win this useful book and for sharing your lovely home all decorated for the winter…..I hope you leave everything up for a good long time :0). Merry Christmas and Happy Sewing
My favorite things about Christmas is that I get together with friends and do fun things, like go for Christmas tea, or have people over to celebrate. I also love to get Christmas cards, particularly from those far away, and hear about events in their lives in the past year.
My favorite Christmas tradition is taking my grandchildren shopping for each other and shopping for their Mom and Dad. Love to watch how excited they get while learning about Giving.
My favorite part of Christmas is baking and making everything Christmasy for family and friends.
The best part is being with family and now having two healthy grandchildren that can run to us with huge smiles and give us snugly hugs. The thread book would be a wonderful addition for my thread collection.
I am unable to pick out just one thing since the whole season makes my heart happy – the smells of baking, the sounds of singing, the sounds of laughter of family and friends, the bright colors of red and green adorning our home, the homes and lawns decorated in our neighborhood, and after the light of day is over, sitting with my hubby in the family room by the woodstove, always with my woolie needlework in hand. He snoozes, I stitch. I have made many of your delightful patterns. My favorite Christmas one is your Joy To the World banner. THANK YOU LISA!!
One of my favorite things about Christmas are the lights.. on houses, the big trees at the mall, and the Mission Inn in Riverside.
The best part of Christmas for me is just having my adult kids come home. Of course they love certain foods I make and that is one way into their hearts.
Christmas day is the best part. Each year one of my three children plays Santa, just like my Dad did, By the time we open all the gifts in my small house, my six grandsons are covered with Christmas wrapping paper and are barely visible. Everyone one is laughing like crazy. Then we sit down for the traditional Christmas meal. So much fun!
This year has been especially nice because I have three friend that I spend time with and stitch, quilt, applique, eat, always eating good stuff, and going on road trips to find wool and fabric to make not only your wonderful patterns but others too. I am so excited because I am making each gal as special gift. I have made many of your little stacked trees and had a great time. You have the best ways to use up scraps of wool. Thanks for making your lovely designs and making my Christmas a colorful one this year. P
I love your Twelve Days of Christmas. I like to see your needful ideas. Such wonderful ideas they are. Thank you
This looks like a must have book…for all the woolies out there! Your house looks so lovely and very festive and homey!! In other words, PERFECT!!
I think the best part of Christmas is looking at the joy through the eyes of a child, how excited they get and how happy they are. I love my wool book, I already bought four of them in Houston, for my woolie friends. Merry Christmas to you and yours.
You
