weekend at anchor point…

Well I’ve been home a whole week…still moving “stuff” from the old house to the new…little by little…we are living at Anchor Point…but we still have about 40% of our stuff to move out of the old house…I spent some time sewing in my new studio…I am “functional”, but not “pretty” yet…I want to live in the space before I decide to decorate it…My space is amazing…I have everything from the old home studio plus what I had at the lakehouse, so 2 sewing stations, 2 pressing stations…3 cutting tables and a sitting area…plus a bunch of built in storage…I do not have a fabric vault..but you can’t have it all! ย Why does one need all of this?…I plan on working at home Mondays and Fridays and Amy my assistant may be with me some of that time. I plan on going into the work studio tues-thursdays working 12 hour days…so thats the plan…wonder if it will work?

This made be laugh so I thought I would share…Jeter (who is my dog, he was really supposed to be Nick’s but they really choose us) who spends time with me when I stitch…was checking out all the “new” spots in his new studio…IMG_5952IMG_5949IMG_5947

So far I have nothing in any of these cabinets….hmmm I know I have lots of things to put in them…but what should I really put in there??? ย I promise to show real pics again when it’s decorated.

I am stitching on a quilt from my fabric line…The Farmer’s Son..Wool & Needle Flannels IV. ย Does this ever happen to you? IMG_5941ย It happens because I layer 4-5 fabrics when cutting…but here is my solution…I may not even need this one as I always have extras but just in case…IMG_5942IMG_5943I have a wonderful selection of permanent Sharpies…IMG_5944I use them when needed…I sometimes have to “fix” things…so I’m prepared…Now you know we will only see a little bit of this right? ย Have you ever done this?

Well really there is a lot going on here in my world. ย I have the pieced SBOW figured out..we are also doing an EPP(English Paper pieced SBOW too, and I think I might have settled on the wool appliquรฉ one……just thought I would touch base and let you know I’m working hard and will be sharing soon!

I also got to hang out with “little man” today…he was so much fun…he’s gonna be a little dare-devil…IMG_5963gee I don’t know where any of that comes from!!! IMG_5961Happy Sunday!!!

PS…If you have read this to the end…It’s National Quilting Day…Leave me a comment at the end of this post on what you are stitching on and I will pick some winners! ย I will pick tomorrow night when I’m in my hotel room in MI for a workshop and guild meeting on Tuesday and Wednesday…they will be mystery packages! ย So fun!

I’m stitching a couple of orange peel mini quilts–one for me, one for my cousin.

Your stash of Sharpies made me laugh. I have similar Ball jars filled with sharpened pencils and my favorite black ball point pens “just in case”.

I had to start a new quilt on National Quilt Day in spite of the many projects underway all around me. I did finish binding a mini quilt on Friday night, so at least one project can be called complete this weekend! The new quilt uses a Jolly Bar — the first time I have used that particular precut.

Lisa, Your studio is incredible!! What an inspiring creative space! And I’ll bet Jeter is thinking he is one spoiled dog, that his people went to so much trouble to give him some nice new spaces for napping. : )
Had to laugh about the Sharpie markers. I have only ever done that…about a hundred times since you taught that trick in a workshop! My marker selection really pales in comparison to yours, though.
I have been in a quilting frenzy trying to quilt up the stack of little quilts that has been growing. So far this year I have finished 15 of them, and have 7 more basted and ready to go! I am in little quilt heaven!

Several years ago, Jo Morton had a fabric that was black or navy with fairly large (1.5 or so) white/cream stars. I wanted to fussy cut squares with a star centered, but the size square I needed allowed for bits of other stars to show–just the points–but it was enough to distract the eye, so I used a navy blue sharpie to fill it in. It worked like a charm! I’m between projects at the moment, but I think I may start cutting some tiny flying geese today. Enjoy your new studio.

Working on what my guild is calling “Merry Go Round”. Sort of a round robin but do your own sewing. I started with a black/gray/cream 12″ finished block and build from there. Round two is HST. I just found a new Moda fabric line with cheddars and it is awesome. Trying to figure out how I can make it work with what I have already done. I’m using floral gatherings which are so pretty. Next I want to turn the 4 panels on point and add some more fabric to make it bigger. All a bit nerve racking as I have lovely ladies stitching along on their own versions of my quilt and I have no idea how I will be finishing it off! I love organizing spaces and our sewing ones are the best. I agree that living with it for a while is the best or we do end up redoing it. We might anyway as we learn where we like to reach for this or get that further away. Have fun with the process. I hope you do get to keep your planned schedule. It sounds like the best of both worlds and you guys really have earned and deserve a little time to enjoy your family and new home. I am so very happy for you! All of those years of risk, courage and hard work are paying off.

Working on my 2015 SBOW. I am taking breaks and learning another passion – primitive rug hooking. Will post a picture when the first one is done.

Have loved the SBOW blog – really some fantastic inspirational stitchers there.

All is a perfect comfort for all of the “ouches” that life brings along.

I use the sharpie’s too, but I use them when I am SID and wobble outside the line, I just color the stitches to match the fabric I wobbled onto. We moved almost 2 years ago, and I am still tweaking my sewing room! I am presently working on large wool needle book with my initials on it.

You are so o o Blessed to have such a beautiful work area, of course you need all the room for all that you do but I would be in heaven in that space, and of course in time I would have it filled to the brim with all the things I love to do!! I have been busy spending time with my daughter who just had my granddaughter, so cuddling and holding and changing diapers and sleepers and more cuddling and holding that I haven’t had time to work on anything for the past few weeks I did make some snugglers for the baby and doing some rug hooking!!

I don’t have much quilting time right now as I have a new puppy who absorbs my free time. I look forward to him sprawling in my sewing room like Jeter is with you. I am hoping to get a mini red and white finished soon as a gift for a special aunt who I will see in April.

Lisa: Thanks so much for sharing the pictures of your wonderful new home with all of us. No one deserves it more than you. I can see by the pictures that your new studio has been very well planned out and I’m sure a lot of effort has gone into making the space a comfortable and inspiring place for you, Jeter and Amy. I know anchor point is a very special and meaningful place for you and I know that you and your family will continue to make many new and lasting memories in the years to come. In so far as projects that I am working on, I have been attempting to finish a stack and whack project that I took a class for a zillion years ago . After hanging out with you at Carmens and Mackinac, I am so hooked on all things Primitive Gatherings. You’ve created a monster lol. I am really enjoying working on all your designs and thank you so much for providing me with so many hours of quilting fun. Can hardly wait to see you again at Mackinac island in 2017. Hugs Barb

Hi Lisa, congratulations on your new home and sewing studio, no wonder why Jeter looks so doggone happy! Who wouldn’t be with in that gorgeous room. I’m working on a buttermilk basin truck full of joy pattern that I’m making as a Chtistmas gift for my brother who absolutely loves Christmas and a forest of trees. I added a couple of extra pine trees and made a dog sitting in the back of the truck because he takes his ” Buddy” everywhere he can safely go. I love wool projects!

Yes! I have a large set of permanent Sharpies as well. My beloved quilt teacher, Billie Mahorney, taught me that they are “Quilter’s Caulk”. Just as a woodworker has caulk to fill in the tiny gaps in their work, we have markers. They come in very handy!

Hi Lisa, I envy your square footage! I too am slowly “moving in” to my new sewing room. It’s smaller than my previous since we recently downsized to our lakehouse, making it our retirement home. I am trying to organize and decide what is important to keep in the room and what should be donated (difficult since I love it all). Two walls are cinder block so placing project/thread/pattern/fabric storage shelving there and saving the other two for books and design wall (important to me since I don’t have floor space). I have the same grey flooring! Looking forward to your new designs!
