WARNING…I kinda switched my block around a bit….not on purpose…but when you switch the background color…it kinda messes you up a bit…anyway…I am keeping it this way…I actually love it!!!! If you need to get the directions for this week block you need to pop on over to Betsy HERE…but while you are here you may want to read down to the end!
HERE IS PDF for THE CUTTING FOR BLOCK 3-MBH3-Block 3
or here they are if you do not want to download them….
Block 3- Crown & Star- 4” block Cutting Sizes
A-4- 1 1/2″” squares
B -12- 1” squares
C-2-2 ¼” square cut in half twice diagonally
D-4- 1”x 1 ½” rectangles
E-1-1 1/2” square
F-8-1 3/8” squares cut in half once diagonally-* see note below…… If using TP to make HST you will still need 4 of these cut in half once to make Flying Geese with C unit.
G-4-1 3/8” squares cut in half once diagonally-*see note below
H-4-1 3/8” squares cut in half once diagonally
*F&G could be made using triangle papers ½” finished—remember 1 square of triangle paper makes 2 HSTs.
Happy Stitching!
NOTE: Do not attempt to make these 4” squares unless you have saturated your fabrics with heavy starch…let them dry naturally…and then… iron them with steam to get them ready for cutting.
In honor of Moda Block Heads and the Sisterhood we share I am doing a give-away today…I was in California last week with Lissa Alexander, Tammy Vonderschmidt, Robin Pickens, Amy Mathey, Jen Kingwell and Joanna Figueroa. We had a very nice dinner on Friday night…Lissa signed books in my booth on Thursday and I managed to snag one for a give-away for you here and one for myself…Sold all the rest!!!! As you can see the cover is awesome!!! 12 quilts in here…a bunch from Lissa and then a few from 6 other designers….even one antique!!!
and here is a video of the quilts on display…in the book…
If you can’t wait to win one and you want to order your own copy of Sisterhood of Scraps click this link you will be ordering it from Primitive Gatherings…or if you would rather keep Amazon in business rather than our family business…click HERE…but just remember if we keep ordering things we can get at our quilt shops the quilt shops will go out of business… I will pick the lucky winner of Lissa’s book on Sunday! I hope you win it! Thanks and happy week three of MBHs…xxx Lisa…

That video!! Love all the quilts. I have Lissa’s Oh!Scrap book and would love to add this one to my collection.
Looks like a great book–I love scrappiness!
I resort to the internet Giant, only after checking my local shops and requesting that they order the item in for me. If, and only if, they cannot order for me (due to a minimum quantity required or something similar) I then resort to the internet Giant. In Western PA, we’ve lost at least SEVEN shops in the last few years. I’d rather wait a few days and go pick it up, (who knows what else I might find while I’m there…!) than watch my local shop go under and contribute to it!
Oh, my, gosh, every quilt is a stunner. Adding to my to do list! (which is already several pages long 🙂 ). I would be honored to win this book. Thanks for offering the giveaway! fingers crossed…
Loved seeing you Road to California and picking up patterns for Indigo Gatherings my oreordee arrived when I got home! Love scrappy!

I agree with you about putting the shops out of business. I have had a struggle with notions since the “J” store is 14 miles away. Let’s all think ahead and keep our local quiltshops in business. I am a small shop in KY but I have wonderful prices. I would also like to have the book. Paula in KY
I would love to win Lissa’s book and join the Sisterhood of quilters , though I do believe I have been in it awhile already. Thank you for your generous offer.

I enjoy sewing and quilting for my family and friends. Never have done entered anything in a contest or fair. Just enjoy for myself and friends, and family. Thanks for all you do.
The Sisterhood brought to my life by shared love of quilts and fabric has truly blessed me. My “Sisters” are “scrappy”…different colors, styles, values and tones, some quiet, some bold, some orderly, some asymmetric. Some love applique, some piecing, some art quilts, and others traditional. Yet, we are bonded together with a common love of quilts. And now a love for each other…Sisterhood! I would be delighted to win the book!
I’ve had my eye on this book since I first saw it. Scrap quilts are the ones that get used and loved the most therefore I NEED this book! I have the scraps!
This is a lovely book, thank you for the opportunity to win it.

I love the way the quilts are displayed on the cover. Thanks for a chance.
Lisa, I have a question on Blockheads 3, this weeks (Betsy’s) block. I am making the 4″ blocks, and am following your color placement. For this weeks block, should the dark I use for the background be a different dark then one of the darks I plan to use for the settings/sashings? From the picture you posted it looks like we will use two different darks and a light for putting the blocks together. Thanks….
Beautiful quilts for my eyes. Cannot pick a favorite. Would love to win the book. Thanks for sharing a sneak peak.
Those are my kind of quilts and would love to win. Thanks for the opportunity.

I so enjoyed seeing you at Road. The display of The Sisterhood of Scraps was a great chance to see the quilts in the book. It was also fun to see the master at work. All of those sheep you were stitching couldn’t be cuter!
I love your style and hope to win this copy of the book!
I’ve been eying The Sisterhood of Scraps book as a birthday present for myself. But my birthday isn’t until summer. Amazon can NEVER replace a visit to a good quilt shop.

I really enjoy making scrap quilts…so much more interesting than the same block over and over. Thanks for the chance to win this signed book!
I went from repro to modern and I am now back to repro. It is nice to see new books like this.
Scrappy quilts are the best! It would be a nice book own. We have to support our local quilt shops whether we shop in person or their online website. If we quilters don’t support our quilt shops – who will?? It’s a must – hands down. I just love your website but I have to confess that I first go to my local quilt shop and if they don’t carry what I’m looking for then I resort to online quilt store shoppping. Thank you for the opportunity to win this lovely book.
Dolores
Love the title “Sisterhood of Scraps.” Great to have talented quilters compile their talents in this colorful book.
What kind of starch do you use?
Looks like a fun group to hang out with. The book would be awesome to own . Thanks for all you do!
