Holiday Open House…

Thanks to everyone who attended our 3rd annual Holiday Open  House at  Primitive Gatherings Quilt Shop…and thanks to my girls who worked on this Holiday Weekend, Nick and I appreciate all of your help and efforts.  Jess, Nancy, Char, Lori, Joan, Joanne, Jean, Amy and Norma thanks for being part of a great event!  Special thanks to the “warehouse girls” for getting all these kits done…850 pincushions and this probably will not be enough!!!

Whether you were able to walk in the door or participate on-line this event was awesome…there were tons of door pizes…treats and gifts, but the best thing was Joanne Blank’s Bed turning of her quilts.  The room was filled to the brim for each of her showings/turnings.   Since our online customers can participate in everything but this and you participated very well…(Jess thinks she broke our printer, printing all of those orders)…i decided to shoot all of Joanne’s quilts and share them here with you.

There is only one request…remember I will not know all of the names of her quilts, the patterns and a lot of these quilts are her own designs or have been past BOMs from the shop and are no longer available.  Some of these quilts are challenge quilts with her sister Frannie and group challenges with her mini quilting group and special quilting friend Colleen, so again there would be no patterns available for these quilts.  I have labeled  them to the best of my knowledge at this point in time.

If you have not had the pleasure of meeting Joanne..she first and foremost is a wonderful person, a very talented, award winning and prolific quilter and she works for me!!!!   Double click on the photos to make them larger if you wish to do so…Now this is just a sample of the quilts she has made in her less than 16 or 18 years of quilting.

Enjoy the show! LB

The rest of Thanksgiving day and Friday

I spent Thanksgiving day at “the gathering” with my family…Terri (Mom) cooked her traditional turkey day feast…and all of my family members attended…my brother Brad sported a new Holiday look…that I am sure will be a tradition from now on…Addie (my niece) is getting cuter and bigger…much more fun to tease…Friday was spent decorating the outside of the house and re-arranging our sunroom to allow for the tree…first time the tree has made it’s appearance in the sunroom…I will let it settle for a few days before decorating it…Presley and Jeter have been a big help in all of this…so far the tree is still standing..

On Friday I cooked Nick favorite casserole…

Tatertot Casserole–somewhat of a recipe…

Spray large casserole dish with non-stick spray…

Couple lbs of ground beef…cooked with onion and salt and pepper..   dump in casserole dish- 1st layer- spread evenly in dish as with all remaining layers.

2 lg cans of mushrooms….heated with a little butter in the same pan I used to fry the beef after wiping it out with paper towel-2nd layer

bag of frozen petite sweet corn-again heated in the same pan…with a little more butter, salt & pepper…-3rd layer

large can of cream of mushrooms soup—heated again in the same pan…thin it down with a little milk..about a cup or so…I do not measure….wisk it to combined and thin it…-4th layer

Place a layer of tatertots on the top of all the layers.

Bake in oven at 400 degrees until tatertots are done…

I eat mine with Ketchup…Nick does not…Enjoy!!!

Do all of you have those turkeys un-thawing??? I am so excited about our Holiday Open House which happens this Saturday.  For those of you who are fairly new to me and our shop, here is a recap of what all happens…First of all the shop will be CLOSED Thursday and Friday…so no one will be there to answer the phone, it is our employees Holiday…

On Saturday-we will be having our Holiday Party starting with Free Stuff…With a min. $10 purchase you will get a free pincushion kit, 2011 Pincushion.  Pattern for Holly & Poinsettia table runner, a coupon book for all of 2012!  We will be giving away awesome door prizes from some of our most popular vendors…Moda- you know what this means? Fabric, even a bundle of my newest line due out in April!!!, Laundry Basket Quilts, Old Green Cupboard, Checker Distributors, Graceful Reminders, Threads that Bind and of course Primitive Gatherings.  We have a ton of door prizes this year for everyone!  For those of you who can physically come into the store we will also be having cookies and hot cider and the TRUNK SHOW this year will be from Joanne Blank-we all love Joanne and her work, the trunk show will be at 10am and 1pm.  Her trunk show is call “By my Hand”…Joanne is well known for her hand work and is very passionate about her quilting.

Now even though some of you cannot COME IN to the shop you can still PARTICIPATE….all you need to do is place an internet order between Thursday morning and Saturday at Midnight-no exceptions- to get all the goodies…we are giving the on-line customers more time because in the past we have had issues with the shopping cart being too busy….imagine that!!! so you have a little more time to get your orders in…The shop looks all freshened up.  Our Staff has been working hard kitting those pincushion kits…this years pincushion is not seasonal…so it would make a perfect gift to have around all year.  If you would like extra pincushion kits they will be $6 each.  They are 4-1/2″x9-1/2″ in size.  Now for the Holly & Poinsettia Runner, Kits are  specially priced at $40 and include the binding and backing fabric also.  The runner measures 18×48” So that is a 3-1/2 yards of fabric plus the wools, this runner was a blast to make and will look wonderful on your holiday table…yes, there is still time for it to be done for Christmas day!!!! lol….  All of these can be ordered on our website.  Remember you will receive the patterns FREE! We also will be having some holiday specials on our SALE button on the site and in the store.  These are just overstocked items that we want to move out and are Christmas or Winter themed.  We look forward to hearing from you and see you in the store on SATURDAY!
