HERE ARE SOME QUICK TIPS:

STARCH first off!  Most Important…If you need to learn about starching go HERE for STARCH VIDEO

https://lisabongean.com/christmas-carol-mystery-sew-along/

I like to cut my pieces to size unless they are HSTs or Square in a Square units…for this Moda Block Heads-Block 20 pattern the directions are written for flying geese with the sew and flip corner method…Not my favorite, so here are my cutting measurements for my 4″ block.  I also am using Triangle Paper to make perfect 1″ HSTs

Here is a video/post on how the Triangle Papers work.

Cutting for 4″ block- with no sew & flip corners

Here is an idea of what I’m working on for a layout…Just playing so far…but liking how it is turning out…the setting directions will be offered later this summer…

Happy Block Heads Wednesday!

Here is another great Quilt Block FOR OUR QUILT ALONG PROJECT: STARRY EYED
Moda Block Heads 3 Quilt Along Project Block 15 featured by top US quilting blogger, Lisa Bongean

My 4″ STARRY EYED- quilt block was made with   Urban Farmhouse Gatherings

How do you pick your fabrics for your blocks FOR YOUR QUILT ALONG PROJECT?

I started with two Layercakes…one of Urban Farmhouse & Indigo Gatherings

I have my unused 10″ layercake squares to the left…I have all the fabric that I have used in previous blocks in baggies sorted by color.  So I try to use a new fabric that I have not used before and then if I need just a little something I use one of previously used fabrics…

I start cutting and then laying out my pieces from A-to how many letters there are in the block…

Planning what fabric to use in this block…

then I put all the fabrics on the design board to see if I like them…

Moda Block Heads 3 Quilt Along Project Block 15 featured by top US quilting blogger, Lisa BongeanNow… I think it looks OK…but what If I gave it a little more oommmph!

Moda Block Heads 3 Quilt Along Project Block 15 featured by top US quilting blogger, Lisa BongeanJust by changing one fabric I like it better…now…there is nothing wrong with the first attempt, but sometimes you need to play a little…

Moda Block Heads 3 Quilt Along Project Block 12 featured by top US quilting blogger, Lisa Bongean

My 4″ Hampshire Star quilt block was made with   Urban Farmhouse Gatherings.

Again…I LOVE how my quilt along project block turned out…I think this is the smallest block I have ever made with this many tiny pieces…it sure turned out cool…

You will have to go to Janet’s Blog to get the pattern for all the directions.  But the week’s directions do not have the 4″ size…so scroll down for the cutting measurements if you are doing the 4″ blocks.

Thanks Janet for such a fun beautiful block!

I pieced the block a little differently than the pattern….

Moda Block Heads 3 Quilt Along Project Block 12 featured by top US quilting blogger, Lisa BongeanAs you can see this makes it a little easier and less pieces…only 73, I think… if I can count right.

Hampshire Star 4 ” finished Cutting Measurements

Click HERE for PDF of Hampshire Star 4″ cutting directions…

9- SQUARE IN A SQUARE UNITS-In the center like a nine patch

Center squares 1 1/4″                     Triangles- 1 1/2″ squares cut in half once on the diagonal.                Trim them to 1 1/2″ square at this point. ( the 1 1/2″ is a little big. I like to trim SQinaSQ)

4- FLYING GEESE UNITS– 1- 2 1/4″ square, cut in half twice -LG triangle       4-1 3/8″ squares, cut in half once.  Geese should measure 1″x 1 1/2″ at this point.

4 HALF SQUARE TRIANGLES  I used 1/2″ half square triangle paper….cut dark/light fabric to 1 3/4″ x 3 1/4″.  Stitch according to directions.  If not using TP…cut 2 squares/ light & dark- 1 3/8″ for exact measurements.  Cut bigger if you want to trim them down.  Trim to 1″at this point.

8 RECTANGLES 1″ x 1 1/2″

You will need to determine what is light/dark/medium for your quilt along project fabrics.  I switched the dark and the light from the pattern…

Happy Block Heads Wednesday!

Here is another great Quilt Block FOR OUR QUILT ALONG PROJECT:  BlOOMING LOVE BLOCK

Moda Block Heads 3 Quilt Along Project Block 11: Blooming Love Quilt Block featured by top US quilting blogger, Lisa Bongean

My 4″ Blooming Love quilt block was made with   Urban Farmhouse Gatherings.

I LOVE how my block turned out…I did kind of plan the pinwheel in the middle so your eyes had something to focus on…Thanks Robin for such a fun beautiful block!

BUT… I do have to admit when I made this quilt along project block I did not see the “heart” in it… and that is why I made the pinwheel. It looked like the whole block was scrappy.  I guess I should look at it in color instead of black & white.   Now that I see Robin’s block it makes perfect sense!  Oh, well…. that’s the way it goes!!!
