I can’t wait…Hopefully you will see a fabric or two that you will need to add to your personal collection…But in the meantime while I wait for Flower Garden Gatherings to arrive I am working on designs for our state’s shop hop fabric line for Wisconsin…I know probably not that thilling if you have nothing to do with Wisconsin…but it is REALLY exciting for us…in lots of ways.AfterlightImage.JPG Then my designer yardage for my Quilt Market line has come in and we are frantically starching and plotting all the quilts…here is a peek at that line…which we will have a book coming out with the same name…Star & Stripe Gatherings…..the book will include 10 quilts and a bunch of other things like pillows, wool mats, punchneedle and so on…Star & Stripe Gatherings.jpg

This is one of the stitchery projects too…lisa bongean S&S.jpgNow back to the MBH2-Block 12 is called Jace’s Star named after my only Grandson at least for only a couple of months…when we will be welcoming ‘little man 2″.  We are so pumped about this…Big Brother Jace will be amost 4 when 2 comes along at Christmas time….here is Jace…aka “little man” painting his MiMi a masterpiece…IMG_4098img_4495.jpg

It’s time…

It’s time to start blogging again…Since Quilt market and before I’ve been in a “funk” for lack of a good word…I think it is because my world had too much going on and that had to be done and my sewing room was a complete MESS!!!  When that happens I cannot function properly…so on Thursday I stayed home and sorted through the carnage of what was once my beautiful sewing studio..and have sifted, sorted, organized my way back to the calm that it should be…and now I can begin again…now I can start sewing again…Are you like this or can you stitch in the eye of the storm?Piecing 1/2″ x 1″ finished Flying Geese units…to these 20 2″ finishd star blocks…in just a short time…

Also…had some “little man” time…introduced him to his first “margarita”…I also found the time to get the garden planted with some annuals…flea market find…perfect old cart…

notice the new “barn quilt”

can’t wait to see them grow…

Inside I have a few things I have not ever shown you…my “anchor collection” in the lower outdoor living porch…the photo is taken through the window screen so it appears fuzzy…but I spend a lot of time in this room Spring through Fall…

then…I placed this tulip quilt near the front foyer…Theresa’s Tulips is the pattern…Next up…I’m on my way to CANADA to Lindsay ONT, which is 1 1/2 hours NE of Toronto.  This is my first time to Canada!!! I am super excited for these ladies love Primitive Gatherings and have supported me all through the years… I have met them at our WI store, our retreat house “The Gathering” where some of them have stayed, in CA at our store and at the Needle Arts seminar at the Grand Hotel in MI in May when I teach there and at quilt shows.  I especially love them because they are so similar to myself…we talk pretty much the same way and we live a life of lots of cold weather…the also means we get lots of quilting done!!! So if you live near Toronto…come see me next week…contact Chrissy Altelaar on FB messenger to see if you can come!

Family Vacation!!!

It’s been a long time…the last time was in 2000 we took the kids to mexico…but I decided it was time to bring us together for some fun in the sun…and that is definitely what we had!!!

We chose to rent a beach house from a recommedation from one of my quilting students and it was all that she said it was going to be and more…Cape San Blas is very secluded very private…we basically had as much of the beach as we wanted…left our “stuff” out all day long…and basically I stayed in my swimsuit from sun up til sun down…

Cape San Blas is part of a peninsula in Gulf County, Florida extending westward from the mainland of Florida, separating St. Joseph Bay to the north from the Gulf Of Mexico to the south. The St. Joseph Peninsula extends northward from the west end of Cape San Blas. It is approximately 10 miles south-southwest of the town of Port St. Joe, located at coordinates 29°39′49″N 85°21′20″W.

I know some of you love seeing “little man”…and my Mom has cooked for some of you at The Gathering retreat house…so I am sharing this post…

We drove from WI to FL took basically 3 days…stoped in Metropolis IL the first night so the Fisherman could go to the casino…and AGAIN he was successful-luckiest guy I know…but then on day two we stopped in Memphis to see Elvis…now my Mom was with us so I decided she should see Graceland…but…there is kind of a back story here…quickly….I was a 10 year old and a big Elvis fan when he died…that June he was in Green Bay and I begged my her to take me…and the answer was…”your too young…you’ll have plenty of time to see him”…WELL we know that was NOT the case and he passed in August of that year…and I have NEVER forgiven her for this to this day…so I said as we were pulling up to Graceland…You know…I shouldn’t take you here cause you didn’t take me to his concert…so don’t think I forgot!!!  But I was there about 5 years ago and boy has it changed, so much more…so you must go again…even if you are not a fan…you will be when you leave…how someone can still be going strong even after he is gone…just like our quilts we make…they will carry on…but here are some photos from this stop…I don’t want to spoil it if you have not been there so there are just a few…Elvis loved fabric too…this room has over 300 yards of it on the walls and ceiling!!!Here is my favorite Elvis “costume”.  The original American Idol.

He named his only child…Lisa…how nice of him…this is her key to her golf cart..and then look.. she had an embroidered patchwork quilt in her crib…

1070’s Media roomMom at the TCB fence…into the museums of his life…Ok…onto the beach…We had lots of fun and I thoroughly enjoyed my time with my “little man” and the big men in my life…as well as my DILs  Lauren and Brooke….Also last but not least… Corey and Nicole..a few vacation crashers but…lol…the more the merrier!!FL selfiewaiting til 5pm to get to the house….Jace how do you like FL so far?

don’t you just love this little hat GG got him? Papa and Little Man…always playing…Papa go hide!  I will count… Great Grandma…aka GG on the beach for the first time…ever this is pretty impressive for amatures… lots of fishing for the boys…

the kite that mostly nose-dived…sunset…
off for a shelling treasure hunt!!! the boy’s castle in progress…and my little buddy getting me wet as I try to capture the moment… Corey caught a couple of sharks babies.. How cute is this??? Little Man and Mimi making a Drip sand castle… Happy 30th B-day Brooke!!!Mama…and her goofy boy…Big Papa…being goofy as always…
Chilin on the beach with Lauren and Jace…Mimi and her best “bud”“Little Man and his Daddy …showing off his first ocean fishthe MERMANLuke & Brooke
out for dinner one night…at Mama Joe’s pizza…to die for…”little man” all spiffed up…tried to get some exercise…to ward off some of MOM’s cooking…biking and beach walking…didn’t help though…still got fatter…but I guess that’s what you do on vacation…very private beachview from our beach house screened in porch…those are out lonely beach chairs…the shell master… he loves treasure hunting for them…but Mama..I love them all!!!  when he was asked to narrow them down a bit…they all came home…lolBrooke and I…

So there you go…I hope this inspired you to do a family vacation or if you cannot maybe you can “live” through these for a bit…I know it’s not the same….

I did manage NOT to stitch until Wednesday(3 full days without)…I did stitch all the Summer Freebie blocks on the drive there…so a peek at them will be shown soon for the Summer Blocks of the Week…I get up so early and the house was super quiet so I stitched a little on the Wool SBOW…will get that post out soon to sign up…I know we did a pre-sign up in some of our FB groups…but the blog post did not go out yet…with all of them…

I had to laugh…I did get a few emails asking if all was OK since I had not blog posted in about a month…boy..the time sure does fly…with the things going on…but now we are back on track…one last push to get the Spring market stuff out for next week…

my best…Lisa

updated Garden Mystery Block Instructions…

Please RE-PRINT

I was sick the last couple of days…and that is my excuse for uploading the 1st/unedited version of the Garden block…I don’t get sick very often so it was just one of those things…the good thing is there were not may issues…the finished size was changed along with some thread numbers that needed to be added…those blank spaces???…yes..those…so nothing detrimental just annoying little things…but thank you for letting us know so we can get the right one loaded and out to you….here it is

Mystery Block Inst. 2018

I am in CA and yes, I am feeling better…Nick thought I should have called off my trip but I really do feel lots better…I have a coughing fit once and awhile but you can hardly notice it otherwise…I know many of you have been sick as well…I guess it’s been a tough year..

Have you noticed my lack of communication in FEB?  I sorta took off…intentionally…I was home the whole month…got organized..got caught up on my commitments, just concentrated on things and now I’m ready to go- to get back to business…and even more now that I am almost 80% unsick at this point…100% is just around the corner…by tuesday for sure…

Since it is Sunday…family day..I’ll share some of our FEB adventures…with “little man”… so if you here only for the quilting you can cut off here….

Feb started off with his birthday…we celebrated at the indoor waterpark in Green Bay…tundra lodge…just for the day…

This was Mimi and Papa’s first time…it was a blast!!!

The next day was his party…here are all his buddies..being silly with their ring pop colored tongues!!!

We got him a kids tablet since he has taken over mine when he is here at Anchor Point…he wanted to play games…like on Momma’s phone??? Oh well…I’d be holding him back if I didn’t let him in on technology…and it does occupy some of his time so I can do a few things while he is absorbed…
As you can see he enjoys it in many places as well….He stayed a lot with us in Feb…Momma was away on buying trips for their store…so we had lots of fun…

There was lots of baking…both real things…and then we did play dough…so he could practice rolling out his cookies…there was arts and crafts as well

The recipe I used for the Play- dough was found on Pinterest- pictured below…and it was awesome!!!… Click HERE to go to her site.

will be back soon….LB

“Little Man” fun…

Since I have been home, I have spent lots of time with my “little man”…Here at home…just hanging out…

The first thing he says to me is…Mimi what are we going to bake today? We then pull out the book and look at all the recipes and pictures…When I was reading the names of the recipes…he recognized Dark Chocolate…as you know he loves my stash of dark chocolates in my sewing studio…

So we pulled all the ingredients…I have to line them up in order now…because…I easily get distracted or I just can’t remember.  But I sometimes have forgotten an ingredient…but now my newest method of lining them all up makes it easier…Then “little man” steps up and starts putting in the ingredients…and watches them mixWhen we are all done mixing- he can’t wait to lick the paddle…then he moves on to the spatula…Then it’s time to scoop them out..onto the baking sheetsand he doesn’t let me do it…HE has to do it…lol….He is using the large cookie scoop for this recipe…he also was in a hurry to put the dark chocolate chips in before I realized they should have been hand mixed in…the mixer kind of broke them up and you can’t see them…but you can when you eat them!!

we packaged some to freeze and bake later.

They came out so pretty!!!  Click Dark Chocolate Chip Cookies -for another great recipe..Taste testing in the car…and yes..I let him drive his car in the house…he can’t wreck my “real” distressed floor!!

Then we spent the rest of the day…building his new Lego Fire Truck...he has a birthday coming soon so…I might have had a gone a little overboard with his presents so why not play with one now!!!  This one is also easy for Grandma’s to help put together…lol! He was so proud of it after it was assembled!!! He is also starting to play very well by himself…This lego table I found at a flea market was the best $10 bucks I have spent on him…he also has his Daddy’s and Uncle’s legos to play with…I only saved the big duple legos…
I then had to “pack” him a lunch …after lunch we played hide and seek…then he played with Papa when he got home…all I heard was giggles…Nick also wanted me to Thank all of you who asked about him at Road to California…He is doing pretty well after both of his surgeries…the Doc just tells him it will take time to feel 100% and to get his hormone levels to where they need to be, they are watching and testing all the time…He currently is in “Man-0-pause”that was the Docs term…he’s having lots of hot flashes and other such things happening…it’s kind of funny…but not to him of course…He is planning on being in Paducah!!!

Time to start stitching for today!!! I am working on setting 98 blocks…and I know…I will show you soon when I have something substantial to show..I won’t wait til I’m done…I want you to see it in person…not just on paper…We are talking about Triangle Gatherings…of course.

cherry chip cookies

Good Morning…

I am enjoying some home time before my trip to California this week…I have been organizing…planning the up coming year and just kind of doing whatever…I know some of you like to see what ‘little man” and I are up to so…I thought I would share this…sorry no quilting in this article.  When “little man” is over…there is no quilting!!!

You all have heard how cold it is here in WI…it is below zero degrees (I call this bezero pronounced beh-zero) and it has been for a couple of weeks…but that is not all that bad…really…there are some good things that happen when it’s very cold…

“Little man” was sleeping over on Friday and I asked him what he wanted to do…and the answer was…MAKE COOKIES!!!… I gave him a few choices and he picked cherry chip cookies….(click for printable recipe)

He loves putting the ingredients into he mixer…and then sampling the results…

He also loves scooping them onto the cookies sheet and he does well with this because of these cookie scoops…I used the #30 (medium) for these cookies…even a kid can make pretty cookies!!!   I have three sizes in the cookies scoops…I call them cookies scoops because that is what I mostly use them for…but I am sure you can find lots of ways to use these!!!   Funny you can see me taking the pic…

As you can see we also used all the cherry chips we had, I guess that needs to be added to the list…lol…cherry chips  you can get two batches out of one bag.

I like to bake mine so they are chewy…I look to see that the edges are just starting to turn brown…

while I was baking the cookies…Jace told Papa he wanted Papa to “nap” with him…Jeter was participating too…he’s the smart one…and took the bed.

Sampling our labors…

We then took a little drive out to the Lake to walk on the ice and to see the “ice houses”…they were pretty far away so we didn’t go close…”littleman’s” first walk on the ice…we also have a few rituals on sleep over night at MiMi and PaPa’s house and that is the nightly bath time…his wrinkles were pretty bad this time because he was not getting out until Paw Patrol was OVER!
all for now…LB
