Triumph Tulips Wool Applique Mats

Triumph Tulip Wool Applique Mats

Spring is coming! (I think it is anyways.)

I love tulips. I am part Dutch 1/4 to be exact and come from a little town that has a huge actual size windmill gracing it’s downtown.  This was not there when I was running the streets of Little Chute WI as a kid…but every other yard had a kissing Dutch Boy and Girl.  Some of you who have been following me know I planted a Moon Garden when we built our home.  Moon garden, meaning all my blooms are white or shades of white…I will be home the whole time this Spring to see my tulips in all their glory!  Social Isolation has some perks!

Spring 2017

Our “moon” garden was the inspiration for our Triumph Tulips Table Mat.  I designed this project for our North Carolina Retreat.  But that isn’t happening and we have over 100 kits of each version so I am putting them out here for everyone.  This will be the last new item we have for awhile as our Gov. had shut down our state of WI.  We will get our Bunny kits, tumblers and Tulip kits out and then shut it down until we can open.  Hopefully after Easter…like Pres. Trump wants..

I also have included a little video on how to stitch the Triple Alternating Blanket Stitch!

Here are the two options for the Tulip mats.

Dark Triumph Tulip Mat is 22″ x 22″…This color option is perfect for those new home owners where everything is a shades of grey.  This looks amazing in my home and hopefully someday it can live there after it has run it’s coarse at the shop, fingers crossed.  The embellishing stitch just adds a little extra zing and a few more hours of stitching but it is worth it!

This mat is a stunner for sure…

The traditional color way.

Growing up I only remember red and yellow tulips in our town.  This more traditional color way is still a stunner and the new red wool we used it super cool.

I am still working on stitching this version…because I wanted it to show in our workshop all the stitching options for this mat…so that is why it is not finished yet.  It is still  beautiful and fun and I will have plenty of time to get it done now…Triumph Tulips Wool Applique Mats featured by top US quilting and sewing blogger, Lisa BongeanTriumph Tulips Wool Applique Mats featured by top US quilting and sewing blogger, Lisa Bongean

If you wish to purchase our Tulip wool applique mats, click the button below.  We have all the optional notions you will need as well listed in related products.  Make sure you have everything you need to get started on this.  You need a piece of 24″ wide fusible web…just a reminder.

I hope you all can put a dent in your collection of sewing supplies!  This is why we have what we have…as long as I can stitch…I am HAPPY!  You agree?

NOTE: Please know we are working with a minimal crew…If you are calling to check on your order the girls cannot be shipping.  So please wait a reasonable time before calling to check on your order.  We promise to have the bunny pillows out before the end of this week for all orders placed by 3/25.

I have some fun new STICKERS. We will be putting one in every order for Bunnies, drink ware and Tulips and every order or until we run out!  Stickers are about 4″ and are very nice vinyl can be used outdoor and you will LOVE them!  If you wish to order more stickers they are $3 each. They are easy to apply, durable,  weather proof  & dishwasher safe. Click HERE for Stickers.

Assessing my situation…

Is anyone like me?…All has to be sorted, put away…cleaned up…re-organized to I can peacefully do my work?  I think I am almost there again…It’s been 6 weeks since my hamstring injury…so time to get back to moving on a regular basis also, that has also been hanging over my head.  I tried to get out this morning with Jeter…but the rain drops were too large…the sun is supposed to come out later today so I switched gears and made my Moon Garden Vidieo this morning that was long over due..but it’s hard to nail down Nick to help…and then I need to be in a state of being videoed…since that was not happening I just got up…put on my work out clothes, scratched that (rain) and went up to the studio….Nick came to kiss me good-bye and I said…wait…let’s get this video no- make up…didn’t even comb my hair and we shot a short little video…as I wait for it to be loaded into Facebook I am writing this…so here is what’s going on in my world..

Launching Wool Mystery Box and Mini Quilt Mystery box…every other month/6 installments. Time to start designing and working on these projects ..

Now you are all up to date with what’s on my plate at the moment…along with some other new additonal products…like…

Primitive Gatheirng Wooly Mats!!!  That is what the photo on the top is really all about!!!

We must have purchased a ton of these so they contacted us and asked if we wanted to do custome sizes…they must have been reading my mind because….I was thinking I have a “big board” ironing board…and I wanted the whole thing covered!!  We also wanted to be able to give you great pricing on them!!!

For us Quilter’s these pads help us create perfectly press seams.  Heat is trapped in the pressing pad and then radiates back up to the underside of the fabric therefore, effectively ironing both sides at the same time. The wool fibers of this pad hold the fabric to minimize stretching while ironing. Stretching often happens with half-square triangles.

This dense wool pad is ideal for blocking your wool applique or embroidery or yarn projects as they can be pinned directly into the wool pad. Because there is some “give” to the wool surface, when ironing embroidery projects there is less chance of losing the dimension to the embroidery, while not flattening the threads or knots.

The main reason I wanted my whole “big board” ironing surface covered for when I was pressing quilt rows and whole quilts…I did not like the lumps and bumps of only having  a 17x 24 mat…and then…If you don’t have a big board ironing surface what the next best thing?  20×20 wool pad…so I can press my whole wool applique blocks and not have to move them…and then we also have the 12×12 travel or mini size if you doing some pressing by your machine…I did not spend the extra money to round the corners..I did not this mattered for the extra $$ it would have costed.

Our prices on these items are way more reasonalble then the others out there on the market…Our 20×58 is only $95!  20×20 is only $45 and then the mini 12×12 is $18…HERE is the link to our site to order!

I know some of you have orderd the wooly mats we sold at Christmas time and now maybe it’s time to another OR maybe you were on the fence…I can’t wait to be pressing, now!!!  Time to cut round 3 and starch round 4 of Star Studded Event!!!

Also Amy, my assistant is having some Oral surgery today and will be out for a time….Let’s send her some Facebook love today!!! Here FB is Amy Wichman Hoefler

Have a great day!!! Lisa

Gathering of Stitches Retreat…CA

The best thing about retreats…. the people.

Getting the opportunity to hangout and get to really know a person is better than all the quilt fabric in the world… making friends is priceless and when you attend a retreat this happens…

I just spent a wonderful 4 days with a bunch of awesome women… whom I will miss until I come back in August and then November…here are some pics of our fun!

Betty had lots to share…finished PG designs … Tomorrow’s FlowersSomewhere in Time….Among Friends..Deb shared a finished Sue’s Stars…Deb is really a lot happier than what I captured here…loland Snow Dancethen Traci showed a fabulous Nancy Rink design… sorry I didn’t catch the name if it…she also had My Crazy Life almost done as well…Susan shared a few wool finishes… NEST is a single pattern now but was also in the out of print Summer Gatherings book which you may have already and then Geranium Baskets

Cindy finished a few projects she sent home with me to frame plus this Everday Crazy Mat that I helped her attach the bias binding to finish it up as well!!!

Here is another great PG quilt… Whirlwind Flight…with our signature HSTs…We only have the pattern listed right now for this but I bet we could make a kit if you wished…Karen is almost finished with it!!! …

Then we had some new projects we worked on especially for this retreat…

This is one of the new Welcome banners coming out in November…We will be putting up Pre Orders for them soon…here are the others that I showed in my Quilt Market booth in Portland OR…I do not try to show you things you can’t have but here is a peek!  Spring, Summer, Fall & Winter…these kits will come regular and Pre-cut/fused for those who love that and have some difficulties cutting and tracing…when you pre order on our site it charges your card on the spot…so I think it’s a little too soon to be holding your $$ that long…They will be $38 for the precut/fused kit/pattern, background and binding- and less for the non precut with pattern.

Then Star Penny Mat was super fun and easy as all the circles are precut/w/fusible!!!someone is working Moon Garden!!!  Look for those patterns here on the blog…search Moon Garden…this is our FREE stitch along going on right now…

We had about 30 women which made a nice cozy group.. if you want to join us in November 25-29th in sunny southern CA..please call the shop ask for Dru and she can send you the info… 951-304-9787 or email…

Hope you enjoyed our “retreat”…LB

obx….outerbanks NC

I’m so glad I got to visit the Outer Banks of NC (OBX) and I want to share it with you…as I know not all of you can go… so why not share our experience…

…It was a long two days of driving with a packed truck…so packed we couldn’t stop to shop if we wanted to…but once we got to the OBX it was beachhouse after beachhouse on the drive up…with resturants and shops in-between it all…while it was not prime vacation time we did have some nice weather after the first couple of days…but hey..we were focused on stitching so no worries…

I don’t have many pics of the beautiful house…when you are teaching 44 people it is hard to think about the scenery around you …I was focused on teaching these ladies everything I could about wool appliqué and the fun stitches it takes to make them come alive…we also did demos on triangle papers, nine patches (from Nine-patch Gatherings) punch needle, transferring letters with press & seal..and a few finishing techniques for wool appliqué even though our projects didn’t require were our four projects…they will soon be added to our website for all to enjoy!..I’ll let you now when…

The tiny Thimble flag…you got to choose your appliqué for the blue field…and all the Thimbles were cut in the kits… already for them to stitch together…

We all need more pincushions!!

OR….make them into little quilts or mug mats…

Home of the Brave picture….or this would make a wonderful pillow too!

USA pillow…I also mounted this mat to a wood board…we tried to give them different finishing options for their projects..three stitches to learn…

The ladies got surprisingly far on their projects!!!  Here is the sewing room…it was a big room so I couldn’t get it all into one is one half…and then the other half..

It had beautiful views on three sides..I projected up onto the slanted ceiling when demonstrating..

Sunday for us was setup day for the worker bees..lots of hauling..the sewing room was on the third level…I got 15000 steps in that day!!!

Monday was guest arrival day…and open sewing…

Tuesday we worked on two of our wool projects…and played a fun game with lots of prizes and cash!!!

Wednesday was a free day…do what you want…I went shopping and out for lunch…then in the evening we went over a crazy stitch for our USA pillow…

Thursday…Full day of teaching…we stitched little Thimbles to make our little flags… some started their pin cushions…I always tell my students…in every class we have Fast Freddies and Slowpoke Sally stitchers…you are who you are…and just enjoy!!!

Friday…another free day…I had a message at 10am…they came to the house…so awesome!! We stitched till about  noon and then went on an adventure…some of the ladies were going on a dune buggy ride to see the wild horses…the message lady told be I could drive my truck on the beach if I had a Four wheel drive…you don’t live in WI without a FWD….It was a little scary getting on the beach but she told me just to gun it until I was through…good advice…we made it and drove 10 miles on the beach looking for the horses…turned around and came back…didn’t matter that we didn’t get to see them…the ride on the beach was awesome!!

We visited Kill Devil hills to see where Wilbur and Orville first flew… this is the memorial…

Then there was a bronze sculpture recreating the event…

Then we visited the actual spot… where it all happened…

Since I ride very frequently on an airplane I really could appreciate this…I would not be able to do what I do…and these two guys started it all here…

Now…lighthouses…we had to visit at least one light house…200 steps to the top…no big deal…HA..right..had to take a little break going up!!!

tried to take a selfie…didn’t work…too windy!!!! We finally stopped and North Banks Pub to eat….and then back to the house…for more crazy stitching and hanging out…

Saturday…lazy day…working on projects…stitching on the deck..walking the beach in search of treasures…the beach was sandy and then there were patches of small rocks/shellsJust as we were going in for the day the dolphins showed up and gave us a show…jumping for the longest time…must have been eating something!!!  Time to pack up and we had to be all moved out by 10am on Sunday!!!

Amy was there with me helping with the store and whatever else me or the ladies needed!!!

The rest of the crew…wonderful ladies to be on retreat with!!! Couldn’t have asked for a better time!

I am so sorry if you missed this one…but there will be more to come…no worries…it was way too much fun not to do it again…and we learned a the next one will be even better!!!
