Local Kitchen Tour…

Looking for a fun day out of the house?  Especially since the weather is being so un-cooperative!!!!

This post is for my local following…I am counting on seeing some of you, my friends, old and new neighbors and especially my quilters!!!

THURSDAY APRIL 19TH FROM 10AM – 8 PM!

I am super excited about being a part of this event…I was asked to present in one of the homes on the tour…this house is the home of a quilter!!!  So we will be there promoting the “love” of quilting.  The most important thing about this event is it is for charity…we are raising money for the NMES- Neenah-Menasha Emergency Society…this group of ladies that been in exsistance for a long time…since 1906…Please read about them and the amazing things they have done in the past HERE.    Didn’t reading this make you want to be in this society?

You can order tickets online at the link below or pick them up at our shop…but I think this will be a blast!!! Get some friends together, have some fun, visit some really cool looking  homes, win some sweet prizes & eat some great food as well!!!  We may even have something special for those of you who tell me you read this post!

Click HERE to read ALL about the homes and the event!

Just a peek at one of the homes you can visit!!!

Now…how can i figure out to see this house and be at another???

my best…Lisa

can you hem my…

I know we all have these things that we are asked to do because we sew…There are things I will not do…like, hem anything…I actually pay to have my own dresses shortened…and the only hemming I ever did was my Dad’s pants way back when…but..sometimes you get asked to do something really cool and different…like fix a flag?  A 20′ wide flag??? I am assuming it was 20′ x 40’…I did not measure it the other way…

My brother Mike is a volunteer fireman for Little Chute-WI,  (the little town I grew up in back when the population was 5260-ish???)…and he volunteered my services to “fix” the flag…since the local alteration place has gone out of business…they were taking care of the “Little Chute Flags”…yes there is more than one…I was just told I will be getting another tomorrow…that one can wait a bit…cause I guess the “fixed” flags last awhile…

I trimmed her off….

Ironed some fusible web and folded her edges and sewed her back up…”this is my best..”Betsy Ross” pose…lol.
It took four of us to fold her back up…

Look how big those stars were…

and back she went in her container that was labeled…flag bucket.

I will get a pic of her hanging the next time I drive by…

The whole thing probably took a little over an hour…time well spent and glad I could “help”…but the answer is still NO to hemming anyone’s pants…

My best…LB

Something to ponder…

I don’t know about you…but… do you find yourself not living your life?  I sometimes feel like I’m attached to my phone, my iPad, my fitbit, way too much…and I feel like I am missing out…I don’t mean I’m going to ditch this stuff but what about making sure I step away from it all briefly each day…

While exploring the Historic Third Ward in Milwaukee the other day I was boutique shopping and I went into a book store…I love book stores…the smell of paper, all the writing utensils..and I stumbled upon this…It was perfect for how I have been feeling lately..

The Introduction is here…

Inside…there are 365 things to do…one a day…and you don’t have to go in order…just pick one…and do it!!! They also have a spot to reflect on it and the date you completed it…here are some of the pages…

I’ve found it here on Amazon if you want to join me in this daily detox….Click here and order yours on Amazon: Unplug Every Day

I also bought this book too… I will be doing a post on this one soon too!!!  But as long as you are on Amazon…you may as well get this one too!!!

One Good Deed A Day  Here is the link for it…but they are in the frequently bought together on Amazon too!

The books are about 4″x6″ and very nicely done…and will fit in your purse!!!

So lets start living a better life…

My best,

Lisa

obx….outerbanks NC

I’m so glad I got to visit the Outer Banks of NC (OBX) and I want to share it with you…as I know not all of you can go… so why not share our experience…

…It was a long two days of driving with a packed truck…so packed we couldn’t stop to shop if we wanted to…but once we got to the OBX it was beachhouse after beachhouse on the drive up…with resturants and shops in-between it all…while it was not prime vacation time we did have some nice weather after the first couple of days…but hey..we were focused on stitching so no worries…

I don’t have many pics of the beautiful house…when you are teaching 44 people it is hard to think about the scenery around you …I was focused on teaching these ladies everything I could about wool appliqué and the fun stitches it takes to make them come alive…we also did demos on triangle papers, nine patches (from Nine-patch Gatherings) punch needle, transferring letters with press & seal..and a few finishing techniques for wool appliqué even though our projects didn’t require this..here were our four projects…they will soon be added to our website for all to enjoy!..I’ll let you now when…

The tiny Thimble flag…you got to choose your appliqué for the blue field…and all the Thimbles were cut in the kits… already for them to stitch together…

We all need more pincushions!!

OR….make them into little quilts or mug mats…

Home of the Brave picture….or this would make a wonderful pillow too!

USA pillow…I also mounted this mat to a wood board…we tried to give them different finishing options for their projects..three stitches to learn…

The ladies got surprisingly far on their projects!!!  Here is the sewing room…it was a big room so I couldn’t get it all into one pic..here is one half…and then the other half..

It had beautiful views on three sides..I projected up onto the slanted ceiling when demonstrating..

Sunday for us was setup day for the worker bees..lots of hauling..the sewing room was on the third level…I got 15000 steps in that day!!!

Monday was guest arrival day…and open sewing…

Tuesday we worked on two of our wool projects…and played a fun game with lots of prizes and cash!!!

Wednesday was a free day…do what you want…I went shopping and out for lunch…then in the evening we went over a crazy stitch for our USA pillow…

Thursday…Full day of teaching…we stitched little Thimbles to make our little flags… some started their pin cushions…I always tell my students…in every class we have Fast Freddies and Slowpoke Sally stitchers…you are who you are…and just enjoy!!!

Friday…another free day…I had a message at 10am…they came to the house…so awesome!! We stitched till about  noon and then went on an adventure…some of the ladies were going on a dune buggy ride to see the wild horses…the message lady told be I could drive my truck on the beach if I had a Four wheel drive…you don’t live in WI without a FWD….It was a little scary getting on the beach but she told me just to gun it until I was through…good advice…we made it and drove 10 miles on the beach looking for the horses…turned around and came back…didn’t matter that we didn’t get to see them…the ride on the beach was awesome!!

We visited Kill Devil hills to see where Wilbur and Orville first flew… this is the memorial…

Then there was a bronze sculpture recreating the event…

Then we visited the actual spot… where it all happened…

Since I ride very frequently on an airplane I really could appreciate this…I would not be able to do what I do…and these two guys started it all here…

Now…lighthouses…we had to visit at least one light house…200 steps to the top…no big deal…HA..right..had to take a little break going up!!!

tried to take a selfie…didn’t work…too windy!!!! We finally stopped and North Banks Pub to eat….and then back to the house…for more crazy stitching and hanging out…

Saturday…lazy day…working on projects…stitching on the deck..walking the beach in search of treasures…the beach was sandy and then there were patches of small rocks/shellsJust as we were going in for the day the dolphins showed up and gave us a show…jumping for the longest time…must have been eating something!!!  Time to pack up and we had to be all moved out by 10am on Sunday!!!

Amy was there with me helping with the store and whatever else me or the ladies needed!!!

The rest of the crew…wonderful ladies to be on retreat with!!! Couldn’t have asked for a better time!

I am so sorry if you missed this one…but there will be more to come…no worries…it was way too much fun not to do it again…and we learned a lot..so the next one will be even better!!!

Last day of warehouse sale… and another cool event for you to attend!

Just want to let everyone know that today from 8-12pm is the final chance to get great fabric, patterns, books, kits, wools and so on…at awesome prices and I am sure they might be a little lower today!  We will also do some web warehouse sales (pattern/books and such) as soon as we get organized and get it all on the site!

Thanks to all who attended yesterday both in warehouse and on the site…we appreciate helping to lower our inventory while building your own!  It was nice to see those I saw the short time I was there yesterday…Linda (thequiltedpineapple) and her family are here with us at the lakehouse and I am not supposed to be working this weekend, so you will not see me at the warehouse today…here are some photos from yesterday…IMG_9732 IMG_9720 IMG_9727

I also want to let you all know about a super fun event you could attend…my friend and fellow pattern designer Stacy West is hosting a weakend on the WI/MN border.  I wish I could take the time to escape…If I did this is where I would be going…Below is her beautiful brochure here:

Happy Saturday! LB

a post about french fries….

Do you love french fries?  Dumb question, right?!!! We all love them…I have basically given them up because they just are way too fattening…so with that in mind I want to share with you my newest discovery…I am at the Lakehouse with Nick and I wanted to try out one of our Christmas presents…here it is…a Hot Air Fryer…have you seen this?  Hot Air…not dumped in oil!!!photo copy

You can make a bunch of things in it…I not only bought it for the fries but also for all the fish Nick catches…I like baked and  broiled fish but there is nothing like a good ol’ Wisconsin fish fry…but again…too many calories in that oil…so I can’t wait to fry fish too…I also got a new french fry cutter…Shown here, UnknownI have 1/4″, 3/8″ and 1/2″ blades….then I had to soak my fresh cut potato fries in water for 30 min…pat them dry…toss in a tablespoon of oil and then place them in the air fryer…here is how they turned out!!!

Let me just say….they taste as good as any restaurant fries from all those good places we eat out at on the road…when I steal a few of Nick’s of coarse….The only downfall I can see is I may need another one so the fish and the fries can be finish at the same time!  I also can’t wait to try homemade onion rings and cheese curds…are you hungry yet?

I purchased all of this from William Sonoma in case you feel the same way I do about the sinking your fries and fish in the old “hot tub”method.  Plus all the gallons of oil we used…No guilt now…Thank You God for making people so smart that they can figure these things out so we all can enjoy  fries now…have a great Saturday…I am going to stitch now while enjoying the sunshine coming through the windows…LBphoto
