Randy’s Songbirds quilt…free quilt pattern!

Hope everyone is enjoying this summer…we all in WI love-love-love summer…I especially love walking the dog and listening to the sounds of summer…the loons and the songbirds…which brings me to a great quilt made by Randy McCarty…He purchased a FQ tower of Songbirds and made this wonderful quilt.
Randy's Songbirds/primitive gatherings
YES all from ONE FQ tower!!!…If you didn’t notice I try and put even light/dark prints in my fabric lines…this is why…you can make a quilt with just the FQ tower and do not have to add any extra fabric, except a border of course…Randy is so talented…not only can he execute a perfect quilt…he quilts them too!!! Take a look at this quilting!randy's songbirds/primitivegatherings

I know he is using Linda’s Quilted Pineapple Rulers and is just making fabulous quilting designs with them…I’m in awe of the quilting that Linda and her rulers have inspired all over the world…if you are a person who quilts your own quilts, or let your longarmer know about these tools for awesome quilting.  Linda also teaches classes at AQS shows.

Ok…I got sidetracked there for a minute…lets get back to Randy..IMG_2607Here he is standing in front of another of his gorgeous creations…He is also helping me proof the SBOW and is helping us host a Facebook group for these projects, where he shares his tips and techniques to help all level of stitchers with our summer projects!  So…what can I say…the guy ROCKS! Find him on FB and request to be his friend…he’s also a great gardener!

songbird gathhering fat quarter bundlle-550x550The Songbird line was released in Feb/2016 and we only have a few FQ towers left..so if this quilt sings to you, you can purchase your Songbird FQ tower here …SONGBIRD FQ TOWER  or if you are interested in a kit with the brown border fabric for binding.  We also have a discounted backing option. Click HERE.   Here is the FREE to all Pattern for Randy’s Songbirds quilt…just click and print.  We appreciate all of you for supporting/buying from Primitive Gatherings and we hope to continue to bring you more free patterns…

Kali from the warehouse is giving out a quote of the week…

Here is this weeks…

“Everyday may not be good but…There is something good in Everyday…”

Stitch on…peeps!  Maybe stitching can be the something good today…

PS…Shop Owners you may print out this pattern to sell with your Songbird Gatherings Fat Quarter Bundles.  You may also use them if you have the Songbird Gatherings line and wish to cut quilt kits, the kits can only contain PG Songbird fabrics.)  You CANNOT however sell this pattern.  It must be given FREE with the purchase of the bundle/kit.  Please respect and honor our rules so we can continue to work together and sell fabric to the world.  Remember it’s a small world let’s support each other!

Bow tie finish…

I have been meaning to post this for a while and kind of forgot about it…but…here is my finished bow tie from the CA’s stores pieced SBOW from last summer…

I got it back from Val while I was in Salt Lake…it took awhile for me to bind it as this years SBOW was more of a priority so it did not get completed until I got home from Texas…

I just LOVE this quilt…I’m so glad I took the time to do it…pieced SBOW are always awesome when finished…but they take a bit of perseverance to keep on stitching!  This year is no exception!

IMG_6777

I had to throw it over the couch as everything outside is too dirty to hang a quilt over and I was too lazy to remake and throw it on a bed…but you get the idea here with only half of it showing… As you can see I ended up putting the light fabric binding on…I wanted those bow ties to not be stopped in their tracks by a colored binding…I wanted them to float across the quilt….also here is the backing I used…IMG_6773

Val’s straight line quilting is amazing…she used a light thread going through all the light background and a dark grey to go through the bow ties….I think traditional quilting is best for this quilt…something that would have been done on an antique if there were one like this… In the second pic it shows were Val had to backtrack over…this is extremely hard on a long arm and you cannot tell it from the front of the quilt…but the back shows everything cause the print I used was not very busy….I like what I chose and could possible use this quilt both ways…front or back.

It was at the Shipshewana Quilt show in Indiana this weekend…did anyone get to see it in person?  If you missed out on this quilt last year we have made more kits and it can be purchased as a BOM or you can buy the full kit… Click here to sign up for BOM   Call the shop if you want the whole kit all at once…920-722-7233.IMG_6779Tonight I stitched triangle papers for week 4 pieced 2016 SBOW…I feel I need to get a little more ahead than I am and will be able to do so now as my wool SBOW blocks and blog hop commitment are finished…So I am working on finishing for the freebie and the wool SBOW… and getting excited about the upcoming holiday…It was a weekend of work as the wind was too strong to take the boat out…but we are getting closer to completion on our projects…this is the lower patio in front of the boathouse with a fire pit being added too…and see that to the right…it’s grass!!!…the first grass of the year!!! the dogs were in heaven for a little bit…now it has to be soaked for two weeks with no one walking on it!IMG_6933

Nick is prepping the boat for painting…it will house our outdoor shower??? Can’t wait for this…

Sit & Sew!

I just want to brag about the wonderful time I had today with Vicky & Lana from NE, Vicky from Janesville, WI,  Lori from Winneconne, WI an Terri from Oshkosh, WI…We had a wonderful 4 hours of stitching, food and discussions on quilting and lots of other things…one of the things we did today was trim off Terri’s quilt after it came back from the quilter… made a sleeve and I demonstrated how to apply a perfect mitered binding, without a lot of fuss. Here is Terri’s quilt…how awesome is this!!! makes me want to do more EPP! Check out that quilting!!! Way to go Norma Van Elzen!  (the flouresent lighting in my studio throws off the color a bit…these projects were much prettier in person than my photos)IMG_6898

I actually cooked lunch for us…Cheesy Chicken Enchiladas…so simple but very yum! click here for RECIPEIMG_6891

We had some show and share!! Here are Lori’s projects she has completed since out last Sit & Sew…IMG_6900

Vicky & Lana came all the way from Nebraska to take a wool class the day before and stayed at the retreat house and came back again today!!!  I think I gave them proper demonstration/instruction on their “feather stitch” and hopefully many more tips to help them with their love of wool appliqué…

I helped Vicky (also) how to stitch her pennies…and then how to attach them to the main body…I hope she bring it back finished!!!IMG_6894

I was working on the Farmhouse Threads-Harvest Mystery quilt block for July 1st….here is a sneak at that…sorry you’ll have to wait til July to get the free pattern on the blog!  Everyone loved it!!! So I hope you will too…IMG_6903

I also shared my next fabric line with Moda…that will be sold at Fall Market and released in Feb/2017…they got to see the final 40 prints and 32 wovens…now I am just designing the projects and waiting for the sample yardage to come!!!

I think everyone had fun today!!! Do yo want to join our group?  The next one is in September 13th in the WI store…treat yourself to some stitching time…and maybe learn a few things you didn’t know…all for today…

Stitch some Stitches today!!
