new garden photos…

what can I say….at least the roof is still on the house…I only have a little water in my basement…my neighbors had big trucks over today sucking the water out of theirs…and that is before this last storm…my siding, roof and window trim are damaged and that can all be fixed….the flowers will also grow back…at least it all looked glorious for a few days… I have proof and good memories..and I will not have to worry about the watering while I’m away in Long Beach….LB

a whole new look....

Vacation…

Secrets Silversands- View from out room

Well we have been home for a few days now, but i left the day after we got home for quilt retreat on Friday.  Our trip was great, wonderful weather, met a lot of nice people, lazed around a lot, ate a lot and read all three of those books i brought.  Played beach volleyball for hours some days, with the 20 year olds.  They didn’t think I was too bad for someone who was as old as their Mom.  I even got Nick to play and he hates Volley ball, just because he isn’t a star athlete at it.  I think he was tired of watching and wondering when we were going to be done, so he just joined in…
We met some cool people and spent time in the pool and eating with them…Noel and Jamie- the honeymooners from  GA.  He is originally from Boston and she from Pittsburgh, so this gave Nick and Noel a lot to talk about with that baseball rivalry between NY and Boston…so they are buds now and have ongoing text conversations…bets about next season and other stuff guys can harass each other about.  They were the cutest couple.  I just love them both…the more time we spent with him the more he reminded me of “The Rock” Dwayne Johnson….this photo below is the one where he looks like him the most…

Lisa and "the Rock"

Jamie and Noel our new friends from Atlanta

Heather & Mark from Minnesota

So after Jamie and Noel left, we just happened to find more new friends…Heather and Mark from MN asked us if we wanted to go deep sea fishing…sure that was on my list-NOT, but oh well, what i don’t do for the men in my life…They found another couple from Detroit to go along, so we got up at 5:00am -to drive to Cancun to go fishing….I will let the pics tell the rest of the story…I don’t want to rub it in too bad…

still looking for that big one...

What the "girls" caught....

the "boy's" catch....but they were prettier!

Monica and Brett were the other couple who joined us on this excursion.  After the day of fishing Nick and I had a lobster cruise planned on a Pirate ship called the “black pearl”  It was a lot of fun…more than catching the fish…

the other pirate ship-we had a fight and the black pearl took the booty....

Nick Sandwich..

the old chick and the young chick...

Nick & Noel----hmmm sounds like bothers names....

Pirate fight!

Winter Weekend In Wisconsin

Hello World….I’m baaaack!

No serious…I can only concentrate on book things at “book” time…and I am done with my projects…Carole is finishing up the pincushions and we are proofing directions and photography is set for Thursday…I love all the projects! Can’t wait to share them with you.  But below is the only thing I did in February, beside “book” projects…We went up to Mark & Debbie Field’s (Granola Girl Designs) home on Rice Lake…we had a blast…Nick set up his portable “ice house” to fish as soon as we got there, we went tubing on Friday night, played snow golf, sledding, and snow shoeing on Saturday.  We had a wonderful Valentines Night dinner and played games the rest of the night.  Their log home was just awesome, all of her quilts hung and it was decorated totally “Northwoods” tastefully, though…i might add.  It was a nice break for Nick and I…I think he was tired of me…Kitty from Landauer Publishing and her husband Jake were the other couple who attended the “up north olympics”…I hope we are invited back next year…Thanks Debbie for making sure we had a great time…we sure needed it!

Nick & I by the HOLLYWOOD sign

nick & i took the metrolink and subway to hollywood on tuesday.  it was a beautiful day as you can see by the photo here.  Yes! that is the sun in our eyes…you can’t tell but we are wearing shorts!  It felt so nice.  Notice the past tense.  It now if cooler and a little overcast and some rain, but we are working now.  We spent most of the day yesterday setting up the booth.  Today the show will open and we are so excited to be here at Road to California!  I was actually surprised to get a connection so i will blog about the show…each night.  Here is another pic of the view from this senic overlook looking toward LA.

boating fun!

DSC02139DSC02142DSC02149We had a wonderful weekend boating!  Our first outing since Nick’s many surgery’s…My brother, Mike and his family joined us for their first day on their new boat on Saturday. Here I am with my 1 year old niece Addison.   Saturday night we watched the Packer game with our “dock” neighbors and few other friends….Sunday we spent the day relaxing out on the water at Waverly Beach.  I made a great salad on Sunday that  I will share the recipe with you in my next post.  I found a little time to sew, but did not get enough done to show you any of it yet!

Home…again

I just got back home from my MI teaching gig.  I whimped out of driving all the way through Chicago, and took the SS Badger Ferry across Lake Michigan.  It was a blast I would do it again in a minute.  I was almost late, but my lead foot got me there, thank God, I did not get a speeding ticket. I spent the night with Colleen Foley who just moved to MI from WI.  She lives on Gull Lake…I am sooooo jealous the lake is beautiful…we kayaked before supper and then went for a boat ride.  Of course we stayed up late sewing…..But here is my grey suburban packed nicely into the cargo haul of this boat.  Then here is a photo of the Manitowoc shore.. 45 min drive home from there.  I was so busy teaching I did not get a chance to take any pic’s of the Cal-Co quilters’ work shop.  Sorry Girls!  But they did the Redware Crow project from our new book.  I think everyone was happy with how far we got!  It was a hot one, but everyone must have not minded, no one left early…I never sweated so much teaching before????  I will write tomorrow to show you my treasures I found in Marshall MI when Linda took me shopping before my lecture on wool! Bye now…

Sewing in sewing room

work area- pattern writing

work area- pattern writing

Well my desk area is all back together and is messy as usual.  My sewing space in in the shape of an “L”.  In the short side of the “L” is this space where there is a 3×6 window and then my sewing machine is to the right of here.  I will show the long part of the “L” another day.

I am working on a Lori Smith Fit to Frame. I finished the top at the retreat this last weekend now I am quilting it.  I got a new light on my machine…it is the best!  It adheres to the side and has little clips to hold the cord to the back of your machine.

Bendable spotlight is awesome!

Bendable spotlight is awesome!

I am putting on a singlefold binding, because of this quilt is only 18×24.  But this light makes it alot easier to see everything.  I quilted crosshatching 1″ apart both ways…Mark your quilts with a hera marker it is fast and easy.
