Moda Blockheads…Block 17!!!

Today is my day…it’s my third block for Moda Blockheads and lets just say….I took it real easy on you all this week…16 HSTs make up this simple block, Trial of Tears…Those of you doing Triangle Gathering SAL this will seem very familiar…BUT…all 16 HSTs are different?  So with this in mind… I did not use the Triangle Papers…Sometimes you have to do things the painstakingly old fashioned way…I actually cut my squares 2 1/2″ -cut them in half…then stitched them back into HSTs squares, and then trimmed them to 2″.  They all were perfect and it’s only 16 (32 if you are doing two blocks like I am) of them so I survived… but barely…You all know I love triangle quilts…the more triangles the better…the smaller the triangles even more better!!!  (Yes…I know “more better” is not correct…but I like the way it sounds)

So I don’t know if you will make your block using all different fabrics…a few fabrics or only one fabric…all will be very good possibilities…I used only one light as to give your eyes a place to rest in the block…but if you like all different lights that would be cool too!!!  Can’t wait to see them on FB!

Here is my scrappy version..Then the patriotic version…Here is the link for the pattern: Block17LB_TrailOfTears

Also…I don’t know if I mentioned this before but…If you press seams open you NEED one of these pressing sticks…click HERE to see the four different sizes they come in…I like the 18″ one best.

Make sure you shorten your stitch length when opening seams…I stitch about 1.5 on my JUKI.

This weeks question is…

June 28 – Do you keep a written list of your “works in progress”, “quilts I’d like to make” and “projects that have all the parts and just need to be started… planned but not commenced”?
I wish…I have something in the “works” planning something similar to this…but more…oh so much more…but this is what I do currently do to keep track of some of the SALs” going on…The blue highlight means that’s MY block for Blockheads…Each month I list what blocks will post, and then cross them off as I stitch them…so this in not as detailed as a written list of works in progress…But I do have to confess…I almost 98% of the time finish every quilt I start…I have very few UFOs…I know this is extremely unusual…but if you think about it…I HAVE to finish or there is no pattern, no kit, no fabric to sell…means no money to pay the bills or my payroll…so if that is not a driving force finish…I don’t know what is…
So enjoy your carefree stitching!!!  And I know some of you wish you could stitch for your job…I get that…I totally get that…I also longed for it and it came true!!! Now I’m working my dream job!!! My days go by so fast…because it’s so fun and quilters like you and SALs like this make it even better…so be kind, be happy and make fun happen every day!!!
I’ll stop rambling on now…
enjoy the day and start picking fabrics for your block…
Lisa
Make sure you stop on over to see what everyone else is up to!

Binding Needles…

You all know I like to make your quilting life as easy as possible…So here’s a question…I bet most of you use whatever needle is in the pincushion to bind a quilt…Some of you will have a favorite, but most do not…

You may at some point bought needles specifically to bind, but which ones were they again?  Straw needles…or were those for appliqué??? Milliners??? What are those for?   So…if you do not have a hardcore favorite or even if you do… I want to introduce you to Primitive Gatherings Binding Needles…They are labeled BINDING NEEDLES…They are long so your hands do not cramp, thin…but not bendy…and they have a nice eye for threading…I can thread these needles with no trouble at all while traveling in the truck sewing binding…I am especially in love with these as they did not put holes in my fingers when I had to stitch 5 bindings on in 1 1/2 days for Quilt Market this year…

So next time when you are shopping at Primitive Gatherings…make a note to add these to your cart or why wait…buy some for your friends too…they will LOVE you for it!!! Click here to find them on our site…  BINDING NEEDLES

Below is the complete line of needles that Primitive Gatherings offers…

Chenille Needles in two sizes…for wool appliqué…our #24s are shorter and sharper than any others on the market…

Big stitch for quilting with perle cotton…and long sturdy basting needles…

NEEDLES

Have a great week!!!

AQS FALL Paducah Classes and a little more!!!

As promised I am letting you know you can now sign up for my classes in Paducah this Fall/September…Here are the projects I am teaching…Click HERE to get the full details…I only have a few teaching opportunities outside of Primitive Gatherings left to do until maybe 2019…so don’t put this off as I may just stay home from now on!!!

It is raining here today…and when that happens I seem to get a lot of more done…I have some quilters coming to the house as well as a photo shoot for a book publisher coming up….so I have been trying to “pick up”….The “fisherman” came in my sewing room and went…”whoa…you picked up???” so if he noticed… thats good right?…This area is where I alway dump bins, bags and whatever I am carrying…so I feel good about my “start”…I do a little something everyday….Oh…did anyone notice?  I got that thermostat moved…so I could “finish” my ruler hangers…all the way…

Yesterday I taught one of my favorite classes…”Big Stitch” quilting…Mary here was my star student…but all the ladies did well…no flunkies!

This quilt was brought in…now it’s all basted and ready to hand quilt!!!

Are any of you seeing our Summer Block of the Week projects?…If you are still on the fence and thinking about signing up we have an End date of June 25th before we quit taking any more signups… and if we have any left we run a block of the month…but the price and the freebie make doing the SBOW soooo worth doing it now..Join us and on our Facebook groups for each project!!!

One of twelve “free” house blocks…included with the Summer blocks of the week!!! Click HERE to see the other options…Hexi Haven and Starlit Skies…

Well I think it’s time to go to the store and get a beef roast…get it in the oven…and then back to stitching…

my best…Lisa

It’s Blockhead Wednesday!….and this time hopefully I will be posting on the right day…I’m not even going to try and explain how I posted on Tuesday..instead of Wednesday…but hopefully I got my days straight now…

Todays block is no. 16 from Jan Patek!!! We all love our flag…I’m waiting to see all the “other” countries flags done…that should be real interesting…Click HERE to go to Jan’s blog for the flags pattern..

This is also super cool…Carrie has created a spot on the Moda Cutting Table Blog for BLOCKHEADS…where you can get all the blocks in one spot…I have activated the button on my blog page to also take you there if you click on it..

Now for my Flags Block…I added some embroidery stitches to my flag…Here is my Alternate block for the appliqué block…I am going to appologize as I do not have a great PDF done yet, which I will probably have finished sometime Wednesday when you are reading this…I will upload a pretty version asap…but for now…those of you who can cipher my instructions here they are:

BlockHead #16

I can’t believe how many people who have joined in our FB group and are making blocks..It’s pretty mind-blowing!!! I hope you have a great day…and remember to please visit all the sites to see the other versions!!!

Triangle Gatherings…Block 44-repost

I do not know where this post went…but here it is again…

Hey Everyone…I hope you all all doing well this evening… I have just landed in CA…It’s retreat week!!! We are going to have fun!… 40 of us for 4 days…starting tomorrow!!! I snuck in a little MiMi time before I left…Little Man is getting big!!! and fun…We went to the park where MiMi went down the slide 4 times….and sharpened my “under duck” skills…We watched the baby wild life at the Lakehouse…Little Man is also starting to play by himself…so MiMi could stitch on her freebie block….and…he’s smitten with my sewing machine…scolded Mommy that he wasn’t done stitching yet when it was time to go…he pushes the patches and makes a sewing sound, super cute… the day went by fast and then it’s time for MiMi to get back to work….Enjoy your block 44…Click Here to print Block 44
