Moda Blockheads…Block 13

I don’t know about you but are the weeks flying by fast???  I am still not caught up…ok…I might have taken a few days off over the weekend but holy cow…seems like its always Tuesday and I have to get the Blockhead blocks done!!!   But this weeks block is from Lynne from Kansas Troubles Quilters…The Bowtie Quartet!!! Super sweet!…Click HERE to get the pattern from Lynne’s blog..I made my block a little different…just added 1 1/4″ squares to the light squares by stitching across them and then pressing them back..trim away the excess and then stitch the blocks together…Here are both my versions…


I have had lots of practice making bowties with this quilt…These are 2″ bowties, so fun so cute!!!  We did this as a Summer BOW…go see what this years pieced SBOW is!!!  Click HERE

This week the questions is…What is the best tip you ever learned?  I really don’t know when I learned it but I love pressing my seams open especially when stitching little pieces!!!

I know I promised to do an alternative to block 10… a pieced version…I am still working on Jan’s appliqué block…so I’m hoping it will be done by next Wednesday…but…I did get the pieced one done…Click to print Alternate Block 10

This block again will be a little bit of a challenge but it is so worth it!!! Take your time and have some fun!!! Lots of little pieces for a 6″ block!!

Triangle Gatherings…blocks 39, 40 & 41…

I hope you all are enjoying your Holiday weekend…and if it is not a Holiday weekend for you then you need to make it one anyway…as all weekends should be fun..

It’s a rainy morning here so I had a chance to sneak in my sewing room and get three blocks done…now we are back on schedule..PaPa and I had “little man” for a couple of days…and boy did we have some fun…fishing….and he was reeling in his own fish by the time he had to leave..

…playing…planting flowers…well…I planted flowers while the little monkey decided he wanting his “light up” fish from his bath to swim in the water fall… we went shopping for a kiddie pool…

and when he spotted this there was no way MiMi was going to break his heart and not bring it home for him!!!

We baked “yummies” (cookies) and the went for a boat ride…well maybe a boat nap…Still a couple more days to the weekend…so we’ll see what more fun we can have!!!  Hope you “create” some fun of your own…whether in your sewing room or out with your families and friends!!!

Lots of fun making this one…it was a little harder picking fabrics on this one…so I can’t wait to see what you all do!!

Here is my Moda Designers Block using everyone’s fabrics…

Then the patriotic version…Yay…I got them both done!! but…I know I still have week 10 and one of the patriotic versions of 11 to do yet…and I worked on typing the pattern for alternate pieced version for 10 today…

May 24 –  What is your favorite quilt pattern ever that you didn’t design – as in, the one you wish you’d designed?

I love the “Swoon” pattern by Camille for a pieced quilt…I lust after that quilt…we have made many versions of it in our shop…one was even flannel…and sold many many patterns…here is one of them made with reproduction fabrics…I also love patchwork swoon”…so beautiful!

Triangle Gatherings…Blocks 37 & 38

   TRIANGLE GATHERINGS BLOCKS HAVE BEEN REMOVED…BOOK COMING SOON!

I am so happy to be home for three weeks!!! before I have to go to the CA store…but that’s like going home only hotter!!!! I spent some time outside today…We have two nesting families….our Mourning Dove who am assuming is the same one we had with the old house…if you look close you can see her head….And then we have a nesting Robin…who we tried very hard to deter from building her nest, but being gone a  week,  we came home to this…      Then we have a pair of Mallard Ducks hanging around close to the house and when I tried to photograph them the wind took the door and slammed it so I did not get their pic…so it’s a very fun to watch all the bird action going on here…St. Louis was a blast…which I will be posting about this week…but first we need to catch up on our blocks….we are behind schedule a bit…so two today!!! My sewing room looks like a tornado hit it…but I can pick up tomorrow…right?  I’ll just shove the debris aside to get these blocks done!!!

 

 

 

So stitch these up fast…there will be more coming soon!!!

Summer Block of the Week 2017…

Today Spring Quilt Market opens!!!! This is a big deal for those of us in business in the quilting world…We get to talk to the shop owners and share our designs and products, we also get to find new and exciting stuff for our shops to keep our stores fresh and full of ideas when you come in or see us at a show…so it’s a big deal…and it all starts today!!!  I will take lots of pics in the next couple of days…for future posts…

and Wow…I have had a super busy first 6 months of the year and my schedule slows way down from here…I started the summer BOWs real early this year but somehow…I had just enough done to show you what my offerings are for the summer. Now I have a time to talk about them…they are all up on our website and I thank you for those of you who have already signed up and tested our new system…The Summer BOW is for our loyal customers who have to do a summer project for the fun, for the excitement of getting something in the weekly mail other than bills and for the FREEBIE…Not only is the SBOW at special price you also get an extra project for participating in our summer event!  It all starts June 5th!!!!

I’m super excited about the freebie this year…the “theme” will be HOUSES!!!  Who doesn’t love little houses…The freebies are made from the scraps leftover from making kits…so you may not always have the same background…but it will always be something nice…This block is 4″ finished..Now that I have seduced you with the freebie…here are our projects…We have 3 for you to choose from or you can do more than one…I am always amazed how much you can get done and share in our groups….some do all three and amazingly finish them in Olympic record time…

Wool Applique…I am taking into consideration that most of you do NOT have all the SBOWs finished that you have….so why not do some easy piecing and a little appliqué???  That’s the plan this year…I myself need a bit of a break so it’s very simple appliqué….AND maybe you want to make some mini quilts?…these 12 blocks could all be quilted and bound to make a mini quilt in itself…hmmm thats cool too right?

I will be adding special stitches to the appliques and will be doing videos on our FB page, this first block has 5 different stitches on it!!…I’ll give you the FB group info at the end so you can  join after you sign up…They are closed groups only for those who do the SBOWs and they are still ongoing we do not stop them so it takes you a year to complete your project the group is still active…Randy is also on board to help us again in our FB groups- this is awesome as we all LOVE Randy, his quilts and his gardens…

Pieced Quilt…Starlit Skies...I LOVE this quilt and everyone who saw the blocks in person loved them too!!!  Also did you notice…NO Triangles!!! So keep making those Friendship stars while you make this as well…this is easy easy easy…my fast cutting and piecing directions will make this fun to piece…

You will get 4 blocks each week for a total of 48…I will have two ways to set the quilt, with star cornerstones & sashing and you can choose when we offer the finishing kits…Jess also has a supply kit for this as well..

Hexi Haven is our Hand Pieced or EPP project…

As we have done in previous years we will have a Facebook Group set up for those of you who join any of the 3 SBOW programs. This year we will have 3 separate Facebook Groups, one for each of the SBOWs. Please make sure that you are Friends with Jessica Holz on Facebook, and then PM her to tell her which group you are in, she will then put you into the group. You will need to be Friends with her on Facebook since this is a CLOSED Group and only those in the SBOW programs can join in. This is a great way to learn new techniques and to share with one another!
