Moda Blockheads 4 – Block 11 “Moda Block-Berry”

Hey! I’m back again, rearin’ to go with the next Moda Blockheads 4 block release. This week we’re up to Block 11, Moda Block-Berry.” Jackie MacDonald of Sweetfire Road designed this super-cute block in honor of summertime’s arrival. Jackie says that picking berries is one of her all-time favorite warm-weather activities so she wanted to make her block, “a little sweet and a little bit fruity to celebrate the beginning of summer.” Her enthusiasm for this project inspired Jackie to quilt her sample as a wall hanging – and because this is her first Moda Blockheads design, she then hung it in her office to celebrate becoming an official Blockhead! Cool! She plans to make a bunch more, both for her Blockheads quilt and also to create a fun summer table runner project! You can find the instructions and full pattern for Moda Block-Berryby visiting Jackie’s blog!

This block might seem a little intimidating at first if you’re not used to working with smaller pieces, but don’t be scared! It’s really not as bad as it seems. In fact, Jackie intended for this block to be beginner-friendly because she is a beginner herself! I had a lot of fun putting this one together. For my fabrics I chose a variety of grayscale colors and prints, including a nearly black floral print on a super dark gray background, tiny mid-gray print on white, a light gray floral on dark gray background and mixed in some mostly white squares as well.

The stylish gray-scale fabrics are all from my Urban Farmhouse Gatherings II line, which you can find by clicking the button below! If you like the way I pieced my block together and want to do the same, you can also usually find the orange color I’m using in the shop, (“Ochre“) which is a bright Bella Solid. We are currently sold out of “Ochre” but have it on order so it should be in stock soon!

Remember, if you’re just joining us for MBH4 and need to play catch-up, all of the previously released MBH4 blocks can be accessed by visiting the Moda Blockheads 4 Archive. You also can find the archive in the main list of links at the top of my blog page. In addition, bonus blocks can be found on Moda’s Inspiration+Resources Center page by clicking HERE! If you’re having trouble keeping all the details straight you can also sign-up to receive Moda’s weekly Blockheads blog posts via e-mail at the Inspiration+Resources Center as well.

Did You Know You Can Now Pre-Order Red and White Gatherings???

Hey everyone! How is your recovery from the weekend going? I think there are a few of us around here who could have used one more day off – myself included! Nobody’s complaining though. There’s a lot to do to get ready for summer and not a lot of time to do it. We’re all excited to wrap up spring projects and start thinking about the beach, cook-outs, and of course putting some serious work into the garden! It’s kind of painful to think that I won’t have my new Red and White Gatherings fabric line physically in my hands until sometime after summer leaves us, especially after seeing the strike-offs and how beautiful this line is turning out. I can barely wait! This collection is made up of cream-based whites and a stunning mix of reds, ranging from middle of the road to dark and deep. Print patterns include floral, linear, and geometrical designs that span from tiny to large giving you a wide spectrum of visual variety.

If you’re anything like me, these exciting new fabrics have your mind going in a million directions! I can imagine this versatile line being implemented into several different projects I’ve been thinking about starting. You know how I love the traditional red and white color combination! Of course, I also have a design book coming out that will contain nine unique designs (12 total quilts – some with more than one version) – all based on Red & White Gatheringsfabric. If you’re looking for a bit of red and white inspiration, this book is the perfect solution! As of now, it will be available to ship in October, 2022. Quilt kits are not available yet but will be coming soon!

I know getting the finished book into your hands feels a long way off as well, but don’t fret! I DO have some good news in the midst of all this longing… As of now, pre-cuts and yardage of Red & White Gatherings” AND the project book Red and White Gatherings are officially available to pre-order from our website. Just click the link below! Not to mention, now is a great time to stock up on “Red & White Gatherings” because all pre-cuts are 20% OFF (for a limited time)! Please note: Pre-orders should be the only thing in your car when you are ordering. If you have other, non pre-order items to purchase you will need to order them through a separate transaction!

Even though having to wait is no fun, when new inventory finally arrives I think it feels a lot like Christmas! Hey, speaking of presents I have some prize winners to announce! Congratulations to Linda C. and Jenny M.! As a way to say thanks for your comments on my blog last week we’d love to send you a gift! As usual, I am not posting last names or email addresses for everyone’s privacy, so if you think you’re one of these lucky winners please check your email! You can also contact Heidi at heidin@primitivegatherings.us if you have not already received an email from her. She will use your email address to confirm that you are in fact the winner (in the case that there is someone with the same initials, she will determine the correct person with matching email credentials)! If you didn’t win this week, don’t give up! We choose winners on weekly basis from the comments made to the blog.

I don’t know about you, but after the holiday last weekend and with all this warm weather we’ve been having, I’m definitely in a very Summer-time/red, white, and blue kind of mood. We recently decorated The Gathering with some of my favorite red, white, and blue quilts, and of course it looks awesome! This morning I filled in for Shelley LIVE on Shop Talk and we took a look at each one of the quilts on display. If you’re looking for a patriotic summer time project or simply need ideas, you should really check it out! There are a lot of really stunning options to choose from and a variety of sizes. Catch the replay by clicking the link below! Ok everyone, bye for now! I’ll be back tomorrow for Moda Blockheads 4 Wednesday! We’re on block #11 this week. Are you keeping up? See you then! ~Lisa

Moda Blockheads 4 – Block 10 “Autumnal”

Hey, welcome back! It’s Moda Blockheads time again. This week we’re up to Block 10, Autumnal by Chelsi Stratton. Chelsi is part of a mother-daughter quilting and design team. She is a stay-at-home mom who enjoys using her creative side to design patterns for her Etsy shop, fabrics for Moda, and writing her own quilting blog. She is also passionate about nature, music, and fashion, which are the things that inspire her style today. As the daughter of an avid quilter and pattern designer, Chelsi is someone who has always loved the creative process. You could say working with fabric and design within her career was obviously inevitable.

Autumnal” is one of my favorite MBH4 blocks so far! The word Autumnal represents all things characteristic of, or occurring in Autumn – which of course is a season I love to heavily celebrate every year (who doesn’t love harvest time?!?). If you haven’t already figured it out, this geometric design resembles a maple leaf. Though it seems a little strange to be stitching something with an Autumn leaf theme in mid-spring, depending on your fabric selections it could also easily resemble a flower. This block is done with larger pieces and half-square triangles, making it super easy to assemble (I recommend using Primitive Gatherings half-square triangle paper which you can get by clicking HERE). It’s also the perfect block if you want to get some practice in on your flip-n-sew corner skills!

For my version of AutumnalI’m continuing to use Ochre,” a bright orange Bella Solid paired up with a mid-gray tiny print on a light gray background, and a black floral print on a dark gray background for the contrasting pieces – both from my Urban Farmhouse Gatherings II line. If you’re still contemplating fabric choices for this quilt-along and decide you’d like to do yours like mine, you can find everything you need on our website! To purchase Urban Farmhouse Gatherings II pre-cuts and yardage, click the button below. For Orange Bella Solid “Ochre” (#9900-79) CLICK HERE!

Are you just joining MBH4? All of the previously released MBH4 blocks can be accessed by visiting the Moda Blockheads 4 Archive. You can find the archive in the main list of links at the top of my blog page. In addition, bonus blocks can be found on Moda’s Inspiration+Resources Center page by clicking HERE! Well everyone, it’s time for me to get stitching. This rainy Wednesday won’t be going to waste – that’s for sure. I have a full day planned with a few different on-going projects to work on in my studio. I got a lot finished yesterday during our Sit & Stitch Gathering, which was awesome – there was a great turn-out! We had a wonderful time as always, the food was amazing, and there was plenty of fun, laughter, and creativity to go around.

Sit & Stitch Gatherings are an open stitch event held every month at The Gathering, typically on Tuesdays (dates vary – this is not a weekly event, please check the Events area of our web page for upcoming dates by clicking HERE). Day and evening sessions are available. You can bring your machine or hand stitching projects – anything goes! One of the things I love most about Sit & Stitch is the variety of projects that come through the door. So much inspiration and creativity!

If you’re having trouble with a skill, or you just need a little bit of motivation, come to Sit & Stitch! There is plenty of great advice to go around – you’re among friends. Plus, we feed you! LOL If you want to learn more about Sit & Stitch, click the button below for more information!

I will see you all tomorrow at 1:00PM CST for Stitch with Lisa Bongean on YouTube. It’s been a while since I’ve gone through my works-in-progress with you all, so be ready for that! I mean… there’s only a few things on my work table to talk about… like the Heartfelt QAL, the O’ Say Can You Sew QAL, Revel, Pumpkin Carving Contest, MBH4 QAL, Stars All Around, and Dragonfly Dreams…just to name a few. You’re not going to want to miss it! You can watch by hitting the link below – and remember to comment on my blog and YouTube broadcasts. You could win a prize just for telling me what you think! Have a great day everyone! ~Lisa

Hogs for Heroes – Official Check Presentation

Hey everyone! I hope the weekend treated you well. It was much sunnier around here than it was originally forecasted to be, but the air was chilly and the wind was strong, making being outside still not that great. I spent Saturday at The Gathering wrapping up the Tulip Festival Retreat which was a huge success! Everyone who attended left with some really neat projects and of course, more friends than they had when they arrived!

I did my best to stay home Sunday to catch up on a few random things around the house…and of course to get some much-needed rest. It’s always so nice to spend time at home – even if it’s just for a day! We all need time to recharge from time to time – even me… though my husband and my staff would tell you that I’m not great at “doing nothing” for very long. LOL!

As you all know we had another busy week last week here at Primitive Gatherings, and an especially exciting day on Thursday. If you were lucky enough to catch, Stitch with Lisa Bongean that day, you got to see Nick and I present Kevin and Audra from the Hogs for Heroes Organization with a check for over $43,000! You read that right. I am so proud of the fact that currently, we have raised now over $43,000 between private donations, our 2021 “American Quilter’s Stitch Along” fundraiser, and our latest online auction! This is truly an amazing accomplishment that would have been impossible to achieve without all of you. I know I’ve been saying it a lot but I simply can’t say thank you enough! …and to think – my original goal was only $25,000! I should have known we’d far surpass that. Like I told Kevin and Audra, there’s no better group of people to ask for help from when you want to get something done than my fellow quilters.

I was also hugely honored to give Kevin and Audra their own American Quilter’s Quilt that I personally stitched, as a symbol and reminder of everything they do for WI veterans. These two wonderful people not only have impacted my life in a positive and inspiring way, but they have dedicated their lives to helping the people who deserve it the most – our veterans. Kevin and Audra continue to selflessly give on a daily basis to the men and women who sacrifice themselves in order for the rest of us to live our lives freely. They may not realize it and probably don’t agree,  but Kevin and Audra are heroes too! If you’d like to watch the replay of this well deserved check presentation, you can do so by clicking HERE!

I still get goose bumps when I look at these photos! Such a phenomenal number makes me so proud and happy, but mostly it makes me want to do more! As many of you already know I came up with another way to add to our efforts in helping raise funds for Hogs for Heroes. My goal is to produce and collect as many Flag blocks as possible by June 15th, 2022, which will then be used collectively to create a future project that will generate even more funds for Hogs for Heroes! If you would like to participate in raising funds for Hogs for Heroes by making and donating blocks to this charitable mission, click the link below for the pattern and instructions to get started! One is great but if you feel like making more we’d love it!!! We only have about half of what we need for this project so far, so don’t wait – we need you! Please send your finished piece(s) to us no later than June 15th, 2022. We’re super excited to get started on the final project, so if you can get your blocks to us earlier (June 1st, 2022 would be ideal) that would be even better!

Once you’re ready to submit your donated pieces, please package and send your blocks to:

Don’t forget tomorrow is Tuesday, which means Shop Talk with Shelley will be LIVE at 9AM CST on my Stitch with Lisa Bongean YouTube Channel! Shelley will be talking about a few quilts she recommends for wall décor, hot tips on cleaning and organizing your sewing room, some of her favorite current wool projects, and Memorial Day hours (we will be CLOSED!), so set your reminder!

How are you liking Shop Talk with Shelley?” What are some of the things you’d like her to cover in the future? Do you have a favorite segment? Let me know in the comments! As always, leaving a comment both here on my blog and during LIVE shows earns you a chance to win a prize! Lucky winners this time around are: Cynthia R. and Jeanne B.! As always, I am not posting last names or email addresses for everyone’s privacy, so if you think you’re one of these lucky winners please check your email! You can also contact Heidi at heidin@primitivegatherings.us if you have not already received an email from her. She will use your email address to confirm that you are in fact the winner (in the case that there is someone with the same initials, she will determine the correct person with matching email credentials)! If you’re not a winner this week, keep trying – you could be next and I sure hope you are! ~Lisa

Blackberry Lime Mojito Scones Anyone?

Did someone say scones? Oof! With summer fast approaching I have been doing my best to be good when it comes to what I eat lately, but Chef Erica seems to have other plans for me! If you were lucky enough to catch our special episode of, Stitch with Lisa Bongean – Kitchen Addition on Tuesday, you were treated to a fresh and beautiful take on this common flour-based, biscuit-like cake. As usual, Erica has managed to come up with a recipe from outside the box with her unique and delicious Blackberry Lime Mojito Scones.

I really love this recipe because even though the final product looks like something out of a magazine, they’re super quick and easy to make – not to mention you only need a few ingredients. Not only are these unique scones pretty to look at, they’re also an absolute delight for your palate. I know you’re going to want to make a batch (or three) of these for yourself, so I’ve attached the recipe. You can download a printable PDF to keep in your recipe box by following the link below! If you’re more of a visual learner you should really check out Erica’s tutorial on how to go about making these beautiful scones. She takes you through the process step-by-step from start to finish, which is super helpful if you’re new to baking or just need a little extra support. In case you didn’t get to to watch it live you can still catch the replay on my, Stitch with Lisa Bongean YouTube channel!

Well folks, here comes the weekend again. We’re off to yet another dreary start with rain all day here today and more coming tomorrow, so I’m thinking I’ll be indoors most the time. Obviously with everything going on around here I have plenty to do to keep me busy in my sewing room until the sun decides to come out again. What are you up to? Yard work? Gardening? Stitching, I hope? Or maybe just simply laying around (you need that too sometimes)? If you’re not quite sure what to do with yourself this weekend, I have the perfect solution!

As most of you know I am always coming up with new ways to raise funds for Hogs for Heroes – a WI based nonprofit dedicated to healing the mental and physical wounds, suffered by Wisconsin Veterans during the course of active duty through the therapeutic benefits of owning and riding a Harley Davidson motorcycle. I am so proud of the fact that currently, we have raised now over $43,000 between private donations, our 2021 “American Quilter’s Stitch Along” fundraiser, and our latest online auction! That is such an awesome number!!! I want to say thank you to everyone who contributed so far, we could never have done it without you!

If you haven’t already heard, I recently came up with another idea to add to our efforts in helping Hogs for Heroes. My goal is to produce and collect as many Flag blocks as possible by June 15th, 2022, which will then be used collectively to create a future project that will generate even more funds for Hogs for Heroes!

If you would like to participate by making and donating blocks to this fundraising mission, click below for a downloadable PDF of the pattern and instructions. Please send your finished piece(s) to us no later than June 15th, 2022. We’re super excited to get started on this, so if you can get your blocks to us earlier (June 1st, 2022 would be ideal) that would be even better! So far we’ve received about 250 blocks, but we still need more! My ultimate goal is 600 so we still have a lot of work to do!

Once you’re ready to submit your donated pieces, please package and send your blocks to:

Ok everyone, now that you have your assignments for the weekend (bakery and Flag blocks!) let me see what you can do! The most flag blocks I’ve gotten from one person at a time is 8. Think you can top that? Prove it! In fact, it would be fun to give a special prize out to the person who can send in the most Flag blocks overall. Keep them coming, maybe you’ll win something for your efforts! Ahh, coming up with new challenges as we go keeps it interesting, doesn’t it? Alright! I will see you all next week for Shop Talk with Shelley on Tuesday at 9AM CST. She’ll be talking about a few quilts perfect for wall décor, hot tips on cleaning and organizing your sewing room, some of her favorite current wool projects, and Memorial Day hours (we will be CLOSED!), so set your reminder – don’t miss it!

Remember to leave me a comment both here on the blog and during our LIVE shows for a chance to win a sweet prize. I’ll announce blog winners  here and LIVE winners during the broadcasts. You can also catch me LIVE every Thursday on, Stitch with Lisa Bongean at 1PM CST! Take care everyone – and remember, always make time to…
